I guess Lord Gaben was right after all, the problem is usability / quality of service and not money. I haven't pirated a single computer game since steam exists and I have about 400 games. It's literally less struggle to just pay a little fee and get on playing instead of messing with stupid cracks and keygens and getting your computer infected.

But with anime and other entertainment programs, pirating is way easier and superior in quality than what any legal option would offer. Especially in the german area. It's pretty sad an pathetic really, but it just shows how incredibly stupid most companies are. That said if there is a show you particularly enjoyed and wanted to show your support toward then buying things like BDs, Manga, CDs, Figure would certainly be a great way of supporting it. You should really be looking at which companies are on the production committee and supporting them, not just taking a blanket "figures and BDs" approach. The point is to convince the companies that paid for the show to think it is a good idea to pay for more of it.

Take Kemono Friends for example, none of the people manufacturing the figures are on the production committee. They have just paid for a license for the figures like Crunchyroll pays for a license for anime streaming rights when not on a Committee. So sure the production will be getting money from that but will it support it as directly as purchasing a CD from Victor Entertainment who are on the committee? Probably not. On the other hand something like Little Witch Academia has Good Smile Company on the committee so would probably be different.
