Elves in western media are boring, but in anime and manga they are cute, at least elven girls.

Hard to say because the backstory of the elven race differs from series to series of course. I found some elves to be pretty good and others to be niggers. They can be elegant for sure and often have a kind of way with words and are skilled in the arts, while still being portrayed as strong warriors. Bottom feeders probably dislike them in general because they think them arrogant and stuck up. Though I'm a pretty racist fuck myself so maybe I shouldn't point at anyone.
Depends on the medium and work within it at the end of the day. In anime they're usually forgettable.

You've got to understand, it's not about love or feeling a deep connection with their chosen partner, it's all about getting back at daddy for when he didn't buy them that silver, pearl encrusted mirror with the unicorn horn handle that they wanted for their 120th birthday. The former are potentially quite dramatic and interesting. The Silmarillion for instance. Those motherfuckers do some manly, and dynamic stuff. A lot of it is incredibly ill advised and stupid, but it's entertaining. It would make a fine opera. (Which is kind of the idea. Tolkien was 100 percent writing up that kind of epic, mythic alley.)

But hell, everyone worth a damn in the Silmarillion is basically fucking Beowulf, "but an Elf", or "Sigmund, but in Middle Earth", or whatever. Some kind of badass Germanic hero.

A lot of the dragons they tangle with are serious business even for dragons too. Killing them is not easy. It gets you killed, or they ruin your life, whatever. It's not easy stuff.

Others were able to at least go about a round with a physical, evil god who was also a giant and permanently lame him before getting Chrushinated, or fight and kill about half a dozen of what it took Gandalf fucking DAYS to kill just one of. In a much shorter span of time. The last one was with a helmet spike. Yes, an Elvish Warrior Prince killed a Balrog with his helmet spike. That's pretty fucking metal.
