as far as bondrude's characterization, this all comes off as a "monster sob story" if you try to look at it as a humanizing thing.
knowing the motivation behind his apparent show of caring and realizing that it is, in the name of his lust for knowledge, achievement, and thereby power, it only really serves to cement how much of an atrocity bondrude is.
for prushka... it shows us how much more she deserves the reader's pity. bastard scooped her up in a state where she was literally incapable of knowing better and was all the more apt to imprint on him. without him she would have died... with him, she dies an even more horrible death, made all the worse for the illusory happiness she was presented in the interim.

The entire place is just a massive trap that lures people in with promises of riches but ruins their lives in the process. Everyone who goes into the Abyss either dies or survives to become a monster incapable of living anywhere else.
Sure, the Abyss is filled with precious artifacts, but the ones that make it back to surface are either used to fight wars or sold off on the black market to mercenaries and criminals. Based on those lines, I wonder if Bondrewd's actual personal goal is simply survival into the next cycle. Clearly he knows something that the readers don't just yet about the cycle, his methods are heavy handed, but he's not retarded. That would explain quite a bit, wouldn't it?
Some decades ago he found the Zoaholic, yet his consciousness will go to shit if he uses it too much (which he has), so he went further and looked around about the whistle. While going on about that, he stumbled upon something and he has a eureka about the cartridge, so he went and did just that. Then comes Nanachi, from which he figured out about the blessing and that those who gets blessed have some perks like extra resistance to the curse. Finally, Reg comes in with his zero-curse dong, rocket arms, and four fucking lasers of Abyss annihilation. This is where we're currently at, Bone Dude trying to tap that sweet, sweet relic ass, literally skipping the whole research shenanigans straight to its goal.
He couldn't simply just jump into the sixth layer, cause there are no recorded instance of anyone surviving that, it would go against his goals.
Prushka comes in as the method to give himself a blessing, but I'm not really sure about that.

That's what makes him so great. I've been reading C.S. Lewis's Silent Planet trilogy lately and the way he portrays his antagonists, especially in the third book, is one of the single most brilliant depictions I've ever read of beings so irrevocably devoid of humanity that you come to understand what true dyed in the wool evil looks like, it goes so far beyond the shallow tripe you'd see in a far lesser stories that feature bad guys who try so hard to be evil with their faggy "I LOVE TORTURING AND RAPING AND MURDER IM SO CRAZY HAHAHA" bullshit that they just come across as childish imitations of creatures like the Un-man of Perelandra or the Deputy Director's circle from That Hideous Strength who are so at their core complely and utterly evil in ways even the most bent human mind is incapable that it alone gives them a power, a presence that makes you feel as though you're physically shrinking in the endless wake of it's sheer inorganic yet overwhelming malice alone. There are very few antagonists I've read in manga that manage to successfully replicate the feeling of that powerfully grotesque spirit, much less do it any degree of proper justice.
Bondrewd is an entity so perfectly and naturally representative of that completely vile and horrifying spirit of utter wickedness that it separates him completely from the likes of rapists, mass murderers, incorrigible madmen. Bondrewd is evil on a whole other level, made all the more horrifying that he is wearing the guise of a man not just in body but also in his refined and eloquent demeanor that creates this polarizing effect that really shows that his every action, every movement, every spoken word serves only the purpose of furthering his grand machinations while lacking anything else whatsoever that could define him as human.
No matter how much you may hate him, Bondrewd is such a brilliantly characterized antagonist that I fear the rest of the series will not be able to live up to his legacy.

The problem is that most authors don't have the balls for that or lack imagination. Most villains are either silly and edgy (and I mean actually edgy) fuckers with a crazy grin who love torture and death for the sake of it, but these are just try-hards and they have scenes in which they even act ooC. Those villains are usually just plot devices anyway, and the other villain types are the relatable ones. They're meant to be good in the core so much that the author doesn't even depict them problematic at all and it's more likely the protag who just has a problem with them.
The worst are the mixes though, villains who are somehow good and the book wants you to like them but they also happen to do irredeemable shit which the mains will just forgive and forget later because of love, friendship and plot.

Even people trying desperately to kill him in a life and death struggle is just interesting to him. He feels absolutely NOTHING aside from detached scientific interest. He's not human, he's not an animal, I don't even know if he's a monster. He's just what he is, and it's terrifying.
