Start ZZ from the 2nd episode(1st episode is a weird recap of 0079 + Zeta) and at least watch until they go to space. I find the cast much more endearing than Zeta and Judau is much less autistic than Kamille.

0079's animation is dated but it was bearable, and I mostly watch fairly modern anime so it shouldn't be a problem.

The movies are missing a lot of fun stuff from the series like the Zeon soldiers with the bombs, or Zaku kung fu. But I think the movies were better presented, and they feel less like a toy commercial because they cut out some of the sillier shit. Some of the time I'd get bored of the constant motw fights in the tv show.

The first half is not nearly as bad as you make it out to be. The only legitimately bad part of ZZ is Moon Moon. Parts like Dublin are awesome and well worth the watch.

The original MSG complimation movies, while not my preferred way to introduce the series, are fine to sit through instead of the series.

However, and I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT substitute watching Gundam Zeta with the Zeta complimation movies. The animation changes between old and new animation are jarring as fuck, the story and plot is lost for the most part, and things won't make sense without already knowing Zeta.

I finished watching the 0079 series yesterday and I had a lot of fun. Things in the beginning were pretty fucking slow though and it took a while for any of the characters to become interesting. Also that newtype shit at the end got kinda of weird once or twice.

I'm downloading Zeta now.
