You can write a strong female protagonist without making it seem forced. The trick is to give the character other traits, so that there's more to her character than just "I'm a strong woman".

The thing is most anime and Manga is carteret to men. That's why they have male mcs so there fan base can relate to them. For instance both fate/extra and grbadblue games had choosable female mcs who were more popular yet the amine adaption are keeping them as male. This is so that the general public can insert themselves. The only way you can get stronh female mcs is shoujo and most of them suck

Well part of the reason the female MCs are popular is because they're cuter than the male MC and have less generic designs. Usually they're given a lot of outfits and looks to show them off, so boys and girls alike can have a cute girl that can look however the player wants them t (if they have the option) Djeeta and Chicken-chan are pretty much that reason personified.

The cute FeMC is also shippable and more likely to be focused on or given characterization than the male self insert in fanon, so she's made to be more of a character (a flat one though). Or they have more fun personalities in spinoff material, like Gudako.

The problem is that emotional strength is downplayed a lot in shows. Even if the character won't take shit from anyone, if they're physically weak in a setting where physical weakness is a hindrance they're be seen as weak overall regardless. Plus emotional strength is written like garbage a lot of the time.

There are plenty of Female leads in shows already, but they just haven't been popular in the past decade or so.
