She needs less than 10 seconds to finish her homing kamehameha spell. If he can't interrupt that he's dead. Even stabbing her is not guaranteed to stop the cast unless he instantly kills her. She will also be running around while casting and can block attacks with her staff.

Mages are just that good in this series. They are by far the most valuable adventurers. And elves make the best mages.
