Is this a good mangar?
>>156469288
Better than Vikings or The Last Kingdom
>>156469288
Pretty good. Some people don't like its shift in tone halfway through but it's set up from the start and I don't have a problem with it.
>>156469288
the beginning of the series is worth a read
I stopped following it, because I didn't much care for the direction it was going in, but I would recommend it
>>156469288
Yes. Unless you prefer pure battlewank, then no.
its the first manga I ever discussed with /a/
>>156469288
10/10
If you dropped it because of Farmland Saga literally kill yourself you pleb trash
>>156469288
One of my personal favorites. It's a great coming of age story and captures the violence of the time period really well.
No it's actually really bad. But you can't really discuss its flaws on /a/ because it has some sort of weird fanbase.
It's basically an edgy guy trying to get revenge but never gets it then goes to work on a farm but gives all his lifework up to get his best friend's crush to fuck his friend. Usually people tend to consider this bait just because I use the word 'cuck' but that's what's happening here. Our MC guy has a crush on his friend you see. He turns into a gigantic passive beta AKA 'true man'. Also there's dropped devil fruit powers but everyone that says anything positive about this mango doesn't even remember that point so how can you trust their opinion? Also the reason for his revenge. His whole revenge-story is because he was literally going against what was told him. So it's literally his own fault too.
I'm sure no one else will go in depth about VS though. It's genuinely just not a good manga.
>>156470790
>also
there's the dropped plot point of devil fruit powers*
>>156470815
>>156470790
>there's the dropped plot point of devil fruit powers
When was this?
>>156470837
near the chapter where he finds out who kills his dad
It's a great read. All the characters are really badass. They are all terrible people, but something about their bravado and charisma makes them likable anyway. It is violent as fuck and definitely has that early Berserk feel to it. Lots of raping and pillaging ect. I would recommend it, haven't kept up with it since the change in tone, not that I mind it I just havent had time.
>>156470856
When he found out about Floki? I don't remember anything like that and a quick reread isn't bringing anything up.
>>156471567
on the boat
>>156471587
It might be easier if you gave me a chapter number or something.
>>156470790
>it's the Contrarian With An Anime Reaction Face
Like clockwork.
>>156470837
It never happened.
Closest thing we have to superpowers is Thorkell and Thors strength.
>>156471960
I'm the only one actually going in detail. Actually being on-topic. But continue to bring down the quality of /a/ all by yourself.
>>156471859
I don't remember numbers. That's like remembering the name of a song instead of the artist. After a certain quantity that's just not how your brain works. If you remember chapter numbers then I applaud you. You're the first case I've heard of with said condition. Slightly envious I would be.
>>156472026
Well, maybe you can go check and see what chapter number it is because I can't figure out exactly what point in the manga you're saying this happened and I'm not going to reread the whole thing to find out.
Its very good but if you are expecting it to be Berserk with vikings the whole time, you will be dissapointed
But its def good.
One reason I like it is because its a western styled redemption story. You never really see that in manga
>>156469418
People who complain about farmland saga probably never read Planetes, which can easily be qualified as a hippie manga and already explains some of the author's views
>edgy dual dagger wielding SHONEN
into the trash.
>>156472371
I already said when it happened. It's your fault for not remembering nor being able to look up the chapter. On the boat. When our hero gets on to watch his father get killed. That's literally when it happens. I can't tell you anything else.
>>156470790
Are you referring to the berserker mushrooms?
It's a big part of viking lore.
>>156472371
It's chapter 12 I think
>>156472026
Not really, you might have been slightly more detailed, but in general you just descriptive about things others mentioned.
If you're not getting where the nonviolence came from or considering him to be passive, you should reread or drop the story because its not going to make sense.
Somehow came up with the idea that there were devilfruit powers rather than some of the more famous ones being obnoxiously strong.
The post right before your rant said something positive it captures the violence well, just because he doesn't write an essay on why he appreciates having vikings depicted as murderers and rapists rather than being misunderstood, doesn't make it any less valid.
On the other hand you were verbose, but rather than prove a point, it seemed more like you don't understand the story or the characters and seem immature.
>>156473321
I'm talking about a dropped plot point. Pray tell me what me reading that link will achieve. It has nothing to do with the story. You making the connection is just your projection.
>>156469288
the series became shit because of hild
literally the worst character i have ever seen
mary sue to the max, and in some way can easily beat and toy with thorfinn even though thorfinn is overpowered enough to almost beat torkell. Fuck hilde
>>156473371
The mushroom was never a plot point, it was just a little extra flavor for one character and nobody actually knows what you are talking about.
>>156473371
Its hardly a "plot point" and it DOES come up again later
>>156473373
He was unarmed and went straight into an ambush in which his friends showing up pushed him into a dead charge.
>>156473366
>you just don't understand
Haven't heard that one before. I'll be honest I didn't read the rest of your comment so I'm not sure if you're just going to explain what it is you got out of the story or just more insanity but I'll have you know the story of VS isn't complex by any means. There's no ambiguity. It's all pretty straight forward. So I do not require your haphazard explanations.
>>156473420
>it was never a plot point
It quite literally was.
>nobody knows what you're talking about
That's because anyone defending VS is a fucking speedreading retard.
>>156473447
>it's hardly a plot point
not an argument
>>156473373
If thorfinn had actually been trying to kill hild that fight probably would have gone differently
>>156473478
>>156473462
still the worst character ever, sucks massive elephant balls
>>156473467
It is an argument though. You are assigning importance to the mushrooms when they are more just historical flavor. They were never meant to be important.
>>156473371
And how is that a dropped plot point? It's just a nod to theories proposed by historians, why does it need to be significant to the plot?
>>156473467
I'll shorten it for you: Its really not complex, you just sound retarded.
Story starts with Thors and his unconditional respect for human life, which was brought up by the priest too.
He didn't own anything on the farm.
nonviolence was forshadowed from the beginning.
Trying to set up a colony and persuading Canute were hardly passive.
>>156473371
Okay, at first I though you had something, but now this is just pure bait.
Really, anyone who knows their history should have realized the story would go like this.
Thorfinn Karlsfeni isnt famous for being a viking. Hes famous for being an explorer
>>156469288
It was good (not anymore).
Author probably forgot his primary intentions and doesn't have inspiration left but keeps writing it with a snail's pace for the sweet shekels (who could've thought).
>>156473905
What do you think his primary intentions were?
>>156473905
The pacifist themes were there from the start you dolt
>>156473905
Its more of the opposite the tying up the prologue is getting in the way of the rest of the story.
>>156473781
>>156471961
How do I beat up bears like Thorkell?
>>156469288
I ordered first volume so it better be!
>>156473288
>It's your fault for not remembering nor being able to look up the chapter.
I didn't understand because you explained it poorly. You said near the chapter where Thorfinn "finds out" who kills his dad which implies that he didn't know previously. That obviously would contradict that Thorfinn saw his father's death with his own eyes if you were referring to that moment. That's why I thought you meant when he found out about Floki's involvement in his father's death.
I actually enjoy the whole pacifist thing.
>>156474021
We're still in the prologue? How much longer can the mangaka take Thorfinn's story then? I imagine things could wrap up once he sets off for Vinland.
>>156474522
The prologue has been over for a while, when askelad died.
Hes just saying people were surprised by the tone shift since the prologue was so long
>>156474482
Same here, if it just stayed as him being an edgey killer there'd be nothing different about it and it would be something you could find anywhere.
>>156474852
Exactly. People may argue that this kind of character development is too simplistic or cliche, but in the end it's character development nevertheless and I'd take it over nothing any day of the week.
>>156469288
Askellad dying was a mistake
>>156477602
once it was revealed he was more welch than viking having him steal the spotlight would defeat the purpose of a viking manga
>>156469288
itt. retards who dont understand they will be traveling through wild west volga russia, getting to fucking byzantine constantinople and fighting with varangians, then going to vinland and meeting indians. You are seriously dumb if you think thats uninteresting, this and Kingdom are some of the best stuff
>>156469288
yes
>>156474482
it'll be hard to pull off. i'm still not completely convinced the author has it in him to balance thorfinns pacifism with the general violence.
i think what it lacks right now are good supporting characters. hild is good, but the other 4 are very lacking. if they don't develop more they'll just always be baggage, which sucks. the group lacks impactful characters like askeladd or thorkell.
garm is turning out slightly better than expected for now, but still average overall.
>>156469958
reading it just for the battlewank would probably still be worth it till farmland saga starts.
>>156469288
only the prologue
