So why not polish the jets up to a mirror shine?

They have to use heavy metal clouds for these lasers. Under a certain level of density, lasers still go through. So it takes a lot of shells to do that and doesn't last too long, since operations usually take hours.

Idiot, the entire point of a fog is to disperse and dissipitate light particles. The dense amount of water in the air reflects the light in such a way that however powerful your laser is, it will hit noting and have its range reduced to a few feet

What the fuck you gonna do with heavy metal clouds that contains nothing but dry smoke and iron fillings?

>>
>>156470203
No you can't. Even mirrors designed to reflect a specific wavelength as well as possible will quickly heat up due to surface "bumps" at the atomic level (no surface is perfectly even), which will lead to the mirror's destruction once some atoms are excited enough by the laser beam's energy (to melt or be instantly vaporized), after which it'll quickly stop reflecting the majority of the laser beam and work just like regular armor. Anti-laser mirroring is merely a small speed bump against high energy lasers.

Anti-laser coating made from diamonds, carbon fibre and the like are probably a much better defense than mirrors if you really want to slap something on the surface of your valuable objects. Even they have to be chosen against a specific wavelength to be of much use.

However both gas and vapour particles are in a random motion, colliding with each other or the walls of the containing vessel when observed under a microscope.

Holy shit you are retarded. How did you finish elementary school?
I just explained to you that gaseous state =/= gas.
A gas is something that is in the gaseous state at room temperature, a vapor is something that's a liquid at room temperature and pressure and is in a gaseous state due to temperature or pressure differences.
>>156471194
No, vapor is vapor, gas is gas. The states are an entirely different matter.

>>
>>156471334
It's 2 different words for the same reason we have different breeds of dogs.
Gas is a general term for anything that has very little cohesion between the molecules

Water vapor is a specific term for water in the air

Jesus fucking Christ how are you so retarded? For someone flaunting his scientific expertise you sure can't understand basic concepts. Like the states of matter and vapor. >Anything that floats in the air, has no form, and difficult to compress is gas
No.
>>156471361
Holy fuck no it isn't. It's because you make a fucking machine, then it matters if the material you use condenses on room temperature or not. And whether you should compensate for that or not. That's the whole fucking point, BEING IN A GASEOUS STATE DOESN'T MAKE SOMETHING A GAS HOLY SHIT.

If that was too hard for you to understand, here's a simpler explanation from ucar.edu, a consortium of 109 North American colleges and universities that specialize in atmospheric science research, which should be a very good source as the discussion is about atmospheric water vapor.

Notice the very clearly worded "water vapor is the invisible gas that results when water evaporates". Water vapor = gas. Understand?
Notice also how they mention evaporation, as no place on Earth actually is ever hot enough to boil water. Atmospheric, gaseous water comes from evaporation of liquid water at temperatures below water's boiling point at normal atmospheric pressures, and, more importantly to our discussion, much below the critical point of water, and the gaseous water is thus called a vapor in fields related to atmospheric sciences.

>>
>>156472757
>the third state of water is the gaseous state (water vapor)
Do you have troubles with reading or something?
> the gaseous water is thus called a vapor
That's what I'm saying. It's called that in every science. Still states and what we call a gas is different. One random cherry picked sentence written in layman's terms won't change it.

I'm assuming two things here. One is that people refer to the gaseous state as "gas" out of laziness and people unfamiliar with the subject won't notice it anyways. Kinda like how strawberries aren't technically berries, it's achenes on a fleshy receptacle, but still botanists and horticulturists knowing this will call it a berry. Because it's too much effort to say and other botanists will know that by strawberries he referred to the achenes on the flashy receptacle produced by the Fragaria genus. And there's no point telling this to laymans.
Secondly the concept of gaseous state not being the same thing as a gas is a bit of an abstract concept so it's not explained well in non oriented schools. I went to a chemistry/physics heavy school then on to engineering so this kind of thing was explained very early in detail.
I'm still pretty sure they should teach this in at least high school anyways. But just go and search for more shit that you can cherrypick if you want.

There's always some in betweens between states, the strength of intermolecular bonds doesn't change the principle.

I think you are a prime example of pseudointellectuals who talk about shit they have no clue about and then cry when they get blown the fuck out.

>A Gas is something that exhibits this behaviour on room temperature and pressure.
Atmospheric water vapor exists at 1 atm pressure and room temperature:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humidity
>The differences in the amount of water vapor in a parcel of air can be quite large. For example, a parcel of air that is near saturation may contain 28 grams of water per cubic meter of air at 30 °C, but only 8 grams of water per cubic meter of air at 8 °C.
>>
>>156473586
You should understand that these terms only work in ideal conditions. Reality is never an ideal condition. As far as the principle goes water at room temperature (25 °C and 100 kPa) is a liquid. Of course you have to compensate for that in application but we need principles to start talking in the first place.

Oh, so water will evaporate at room temperature to form a gas only in reality, but not in an imaginary, idealistic world.
I'm sorry, but you got a shit engineering degree if you never learned to calculate anything related to reality. I hope you didn't spend a lot of money on your fake degree, and that your incompetence in your job will never endanger Human lives.

I realized that after posting it.
Took you guys too long to notice it.

I was referring to the steam actually.
The higher the humidity in the air, the hotter you would feel. Such is the reason why saunas can kill if you stayed too long despite the complete absence of fire. It is also one of the rules in firefighting: never open a hot door as the sudden gust of hot wind will kill you in an instant "
But of course, since this is super lasers we are talking about, the effect would be so much greater

Enough to melt your laser BETAs
>>
>>156475298
Oh, and by the way, unlike armor and mirrors than can be burned, steam is still a shield against lasers
>>
>>156475298
Yeah, BETA work on the sunny side of the Moon and release super-heated lasers, I somehow doubt temperature really go stop them.
>>
>>156475449
Radiation is different from convection brought by direct contact with searing hot air
>>
Today I learned that water vapor is not a gas.

the BETAs on Earth are probably somewhat different from those used on the moon.

Why make "one fits all environments hazards" BETA instead of one made specifically for one planet or moon.

We are talking about creatures that can still be taken down by simple gun fire. If you have that thin of an armor, then you will be taken down by hot air

Note: this is what 6 minutes of 110C of hot air does to the skin. One wrestler even died in Finland's sauna competition.

With BETA's infinite energy fueling the air, I expect that the temperature would be unrecognizable from actual napalm

I came up with a master plan. This is how you defeat laser class: You fire a missile with a mirror inside it. If the missile is hit by laser, it quickly directs the mirror toward the laser source, causing the laser class to kill itself as the beam reaches inside the missile.

Is muv-luv really that good or is it just a bunch of anons just jerking each other off on the series?
The animus any good?
>>
>>156478179
Alternative is legit great one of the best tranlated vn, the problem is that extra and unlimited arent even close but you need both so you can actually enjoy alternative. The animus are meh.
>>
>>156478536
I see. Would I find copies of the VNs on nyaa if I look hard enough, or will they take a bit more thinking

I remember seeing the infographic but it induces buyfagging of which im not really a fan of, due to being poor and all that
>>
>>156478179
The trilogy is good, but unadaptable for anime. Manga is fine though. Total Eclipse is alright, but the anime adapts only 2/3 of it. Schwarzesmarken is shittilly written, and shittily adapted, but the anime has good fights.

The "general" is almost pure waifufaggotry, with occational news and new content being posted.

You can still pirate it if you want and only buy it if you like it and want less hassle to play it.

Sounds more legitimate than Mohs Hardness 15 BS. Which could be made not BS if they simply described four substances each for Mohs 11, 12, 13, and 14, but even that step was beyond the staff, apparently.
>>
>>156484200
Why would they have described these four substances? Shirogane isn't a scientist. He doesn't even know what Mohs is. These four substances are likely BETA-related, just like most SF devices in the series.
>>
>>156484339
Because otherwise the scale doesn't fucking work. It's as simple as filling in four spaces, like most school children learn in middle school earth science or even earlier.
>>
>>156470962
is this hentai
>>
>>156484752
They don't need to describe every concept in detail. Just because some character evokes a 15 Mohs substance doesn't mean he also has to list the substances that range between 10 and 14.
