She deserved it for being so weak. I only realized after she tried to kill herself that Ueno was right. She was right about Shouko and Shouko deserved that beating that her mother protected her from. Not him, it wasn't so bad but while they trimmed most of it, they kept characters that honestly didn't contribute to anything (since they cut most of their involvment), to me it felt like innecesary fanservice for manga readers. Ueno, Sahara, Kawaki and Satoshi should not be in the movie. It was somewhat unfocused as well, the manga had 7 volumes to beat around the bush and do whatever, but the movie was just 2 hours long.

I thought the movie was absolutely brilliant, but perhaps could have done better as a series instead of a movie.

She's been episode director several times and it's very obvious when she's doing it. The Maidragon episode she directed was decent. I personally like her character acting, one of the best in the industry, but her framing skills are very limited, 2dimensional and basic, and after a while you start seeing a pattern, doesn't help that she loves her filters.
