have we found consensus yet?

How is right more comfy than left? It's not even a contest.

How is this even a question?

I have never seen so much shit taste in one thread. Suburbs are ultimate comf.
>>
I can't live without cities convenience.

>>
>>156395361
Normally the winner would be village all the way, but Japanese suburbs are the ultimate in comfy.

Its a tough call, but the lack of anything to do without looking inconspicuous in a Japanese village is not very comfy.

I guess if you were a kid and had friends to have fun with the village would definitely win, but as a loner adult suburbs are a type of comfy you can enjoy solo.
>>
>>156395520
I should add that wandering around a remote Japanese village sounds like a good way to get cursed and show up dead or missing. Like >>156395477 said
>>
>>156395373
Well, you're not as likely to have a Shiki or Higurashi situation on your hands in the suburbs

Isolation and inconvenience are not comfy even when it's safe, anyway.
>>
>>156395361
Modern suburb-esque villages masterrace. You get that comfy, lazy village feeling, with the comfiness of modern buildings.

This might be a sociology/psychology question but I wonder if the people that prefer left were raised on the suburms and vice versa.

Since speaking for my self I was born on the suburbs and love smol cities desu.
I'm just kininarimasu, I'm not NSA or a CIA nigger getting data.
>>
>>156395361
Suburbs aren't bad, but jap suburbs look just as densely packed enough to resemble the heart of a dense city, so villages are much better.
>>
Anyone who says village is either a sheltered city kid or a FREAK who is able to put up with the ungodly amount of insects that invade your personal space every day

Living out in the country is fun for a day or two until you realize that you're dead because you've just been bitten by a tiny spider no bigger than a penny, and you were always FUCKED because there was no chance you'd ever see it since it's so small

Fuck bugs and you are a savage if you put up with that shitty rural lifestyle
>>
>>156395361
Right only in Japan. Rural is objectively more comfy but Japan has no guns to protect you from the forest creatures like skinwalkers, zombies, and Muslims, so naturally right is preferable. However, if Japan allows me my constitutional right to carry a firearm I would gladly take left any day.
>>
>>156395575
I was born in the suburbs, and I also prefer cities.

Bruh I think I should do research about that research if there is some thesis about that or something.
>>
Do I have internet and a train station within a bicycle ride in the village? If yes then village. >clean air
>grow your own vegetables
>gather mushrooms in the forest
>fish
>actually see stars at night
Top cozyness.
Extra points for a mountain nearby.
>>
>>156395575
Born in suburbs, prefer suburbs
>>
>>156395619
Rural Australia is literally a shithole. Australian bush is the worst possible biome to ever exist, I'd take literally any other sort of forest over it.
>>
>>156395641
>Do I have internet and a train station within a bicycle ride in the village?
No and you also have no plumming because the old senile village chief outlawed toilets so you have an outhouse that you're forced to manually clean out every week
>>
Neither. Japanese communities look like shit. I'd much prefer a Greek costal town.
>>
>>156395593
It can't be so bad in, like, Maine and Hokkaido villages.
>>
>>156395662

>>

>>
>>156395641
I wonder if people who say things like this have ever actually done them. What the fuck is comfy about slaving away in a garden, exactly?
>>
>>156395575
I sort of bounced back and forth from the really rural area my family lived in and the city I went to school in so I have both experience.

There are some nice elements to the country village for sure, but it really depends on the climate and country. Growing up is definitely something I think should be done in that environment.

>>156395593
I sort of agree with this, but not to that extreme. Village life has a lot of shit that is hard to quantify without living it. Bugs, animals, lack of basic things without traveling a billion miles away, small world locals and gossip, ect.

>>156395606
Patrician response. I think you can go through a bunch of bullshit to get a rifle for use in the wilderness in Japan but it certainly isn't easy. defiantly makes me glad to be American.
>>
>>156395361
Depends where the suburb is located. Numazu was pretty sweet, I could easily get a cheap donburi whenever I felt like it and it's just a 40m bullet train ride to tokyo.
>>
>>156395690
I'm from a butt-fuck small town in New Zealand, I hate the heat but the Mediterranean coast looks absolutely amazing
>>
>>156395719
Honestly I hate cities usually but Tokyo proper is actually very comfy, even as a big city. The way its divided up makes even Shinjuku seem sub-urban at the street level. Its a great feeling to slip into a back alley onto a narrow winding street lit up with tiny mom and pop restaurants and izakaya operating in a 500 sq foot space.

Yeah, I helped my grandparends with their shit, it's pretty nice. I guess a huge fucking field where you grow shit to sell is a pain in the ass but a little garden with berries, tomatoes and a bunch of fruit trees is great and doesn't take too much of your time. A lot of the tasks can be automated nowadays as well.

Born in city, lived in village close to city and studied in city until 16 after that moved to a big city. I love the convenience of big city life but I miss the scenery of the village. Suburbs spook me the fuck out. They look a lot like city but there are not many people around during day and it's creepy as fuck to me for whatever reason.

I think this is the normal progression in life. Start out in a rural place, move out to the city when you're in your late teens and then move back to a smaller place when you're ready to start your own family.

My parent's place is like the classic image of the 50's American dream

Aside from waiting 2 hours for the guy to drive to the nearest military base and fill forms to get his gun.

Sakura Quest having centipedes and grasshoppers all over a character's house does not sound like my idea of a good time. Suburbs are good too, though you won't be enjoying nature and might end up cooped inside all day anyways. You need to experience both to be able to appreciate what you have and what you're missing.

Village is only better during the summer or in a hot region, and even then it's gonna be cold as fuck at night. Whereas in a suburb, it's easier to go out at night and enjoy the weather since the building will trap so much heat from the sun and release it after sunset. Also suburbs are way less boring than a village because there are so many people and so many things to do...

I still prefer left though

Speaking of that does japan have own stories like these?
>>
>>156408176
While i do find some appeal in pragmatic architecture (the soviet housig blocks), i don't agree that concrete buildings have some unique cultural distinction.
Older, traditional styles are way more culturally unique, and provide better housing quality. Those concrete buldings were not made to please the inhabitant, but they were to house huge quantities of population for a cheap price,

It's a hard question to answer, personally. The village would have the higher nostalgia value outright. I find being immersed in nostalgia "comfy" - whether when strolling through my memories, or listening to a nostalgic piece of music, or whiffing an old, familiar aroma.
So does that equate to an instant win for the village?
Not really.
Suburbs can be quite comfy, too - in these days, where more than half of the human population lives in urban areas, suburbs have become commonplace. Sure, you can't really replace the peace and quiet of the village, but growing up in a city has its' own benefits, too. You can have LOADS and LOADS of experiences. Experiences that make you look back fondly; experiences that make you feel like you belong there. A suburb can bring a child many fond memories.

culture is a constant mindset and cultural things are a product of that mindset

The Japanese take in so many ideas from the outside, but they make each of them a worthwhile part of their culture. This applies to kanji, to pagoda buildings, to curry rice, and certainly also to their concrete infrastructure. How they design their buildings, walls, and marks on the streets are in of themselves are unique regardless of what their made of. No one will ever mistake a Tokyo neighborhood with anything outside of Japan, not even in Korea; I find that much alone quite impressive.

It always irks me when people see "older, traditional" styles as culturally unique, when they are the exact same products of an often pragmatic mindset, only from a another period. In that case, the Japanese ripped off from the Chinese architecture before gradually making it something of their own. A vast majority of those older buildings weren't made to "please the inhabitant" either, but to also provide efficient, resilient shelter from the elements. Sure there are landmarks, those are exactly that for a reason, exceptions often commissioned by nobles and other wealthy people.

You can say you prefer chinese-derived wooden houses over western-derived concrete buildings aesthetically, but to hold one over the other as more "culturally unique" is a massive disservice to the actual culture that is regularly evolving.

apart from what other anon said, you're missing that Soviet-style blocks are, like you said yourself, unique to that one attempt at a post-WW2 proletarian culture in Europe.

There are also other questions of "pleasing" the inhabitant. I've lived in many different places, and many were pleasing in their own way; the joy of my own private library in a New England mansion, the joy of lush year-round comfort in an LA suburb, and the joy of being able to experience absolutely anything in an 8-mat single room above Shinjuku Station are all their own irreplaceable flavors of bliss.

Insects are the worst thing about the countryside, especially ticks.

No one gives a shit about wild boars because you can't use a gun to kill a tick.

So yeah, countryside would be god tier if all pests and parasites were made extinct.

I guess only 1950 to 1960s America was the only time in America where you could run naked in the countryside or forest without getting bitten by mosquitoes or ticks because that decade was when America was carpetbombing everything with DDT.

If you're doing it to make a living, its work. It is not fun. However, being able to sit down in a nice chair on a warm night and looking out over the land gives you a sense of pride in accomplishment and gives you an opportunity to truly appreciate the natural beauty of the earth.

My property line on the far side is butted up against a ~3mi lake. A stream that feeds it runs through my property. the stream is large enough for trout, the lake has the usual cast of bass, sunfish, pike, beavers, otters, water fowl, etc. Eating fish is fine, but I've been told endless times since I was a kid that eating too many of the fish is bad for you, something with acid rain going into the lake or something. Doesn't stop me from enjoying it from time to time if I get a fat one.

They also tried to kill me when I was a kid in which I was really oblivious about until someone explained to me when I was 20.

I wouldn't know first hand since I'm near Long Island, but it's probably quiet and scenic like you'd expect. Sure the beaches are nice, but I'd rather not live in a town filled with tourists and insanely rich elderly people.

I lived almost my whole life in small ~300 people village, now I'm living in suburbs in Scotland. It's... kind of equal? While living in village, you don't have to care about nosy neigbours, because there's so much space between houses. You can literally hold parties everyday and that's not a problem at all. Taking a walk in local forest is cosy, there's almost no one in forest besides occasional mushroom picker when it's autumn. You can set up chickencoop with ease; eggs from chickens running around your own yard are much better. And almost for free, you just need grain from your local farmer.
>skinwalkers
It's a fucking meme, there's about 5km from my village another one, about 100 people in the middle of fucking forest. As kids, we would nickname kids from that particular village as ,,forest people" because of that. The worst thing you could meet in the forest would be boar, especially sow with the piglets. But you would have to try really hard to meet one, because animals FEAR humans. If you don't want animals to enter your possesion, it's enough to set up old, smelly socks on a stick. It's enough to scare them away.
>suburbs
It's nice to have actual shop 50 meters from your house. It's nice to go clubbing from time to time, go to local pub for a few beers. It's nice to get takeaway food just with few clicks on computer. Living in the village means that you have to take a trip to city, and buy food for several days, macaron and flour especially. You kinda have to grow your own vegetables, because this stuff is way too perishable to stock. You need more refridgerators at house anyway, to stock meat and everything. No pizza for you. Well, for about 5 years, I actually can order pizza, but it's about 10 km away. It's just that one restaurant. Everything else is too far away.

I think living in suburbs is much better for younger people. But it's not that much different from living in village. You also can go clubbing when living in small village, just drive to club.

The village that I live in is quite comfy and has some nice views to offer. Plus I have a view on an obandoned park from my window. often spot wild animals nearby, birds you can't see in the city, foxes, squirrels, sometimes boars and deers. If whatching wildlife form your room isn't the comfiest thing ever,, I don't know what is.
>>
>>156439991
True. The Jersey Shore is smothered with tourists as is, plus I can't even stand places like Belmar, or even the nicer parts of Long Island. It's too prissy for me
>>
>>156395575
I'm from the biggest city in my country and I can't stand staying in a small town let alone a village
>>
>>156440549
Wildlife over here can be pretty problematic. Well, here in Poland we had special health program in 90's. Goverment airdropped vaccines for rabies. Foxes would normally die from infection - rabies infection is serious stuff. But thanks to vaccine, we had fox overpopulation. It went so terrible you couldn't see hare on anything fox could hunt and eat. Nowadays situation is kinda normal again, but foxes, foxes, we still have too much ginger bastards. Even if fox is most common roadkill where I live. One fox will happily murderize whole chickencoop in one hour. We also have too much boars, because no wolves and lazy hunters. If unchecked. they will plow through your lawn, garden, orchard, and doghouse with dog inside. But yea. 4-5 am in countryside means you will wake up to birds singing everywhere, that's the hour when they are most active. Charming.
>>
>>156441035
The fuck.
Did Potatoland have easy access to gun license for rural dwellers?
Are old farts that lazy or meat from Romania simply too fucking cheap to bother hunting?
>>
This may be heresy on 2017 4chan that fetishizes muh homogeneous tightly-knit societies, but it fucking sucks when you live in a small village and literally everyone knows everything about everyone else. You have no real expectation of privacy outside of your own home, and since there's little going on any bit of gossip instantly spreads across town.

That's great if, say, you're sick and half of your extended family is there to help you, I recognize that. But you're also constantly being judged and it's real easy to become a black sheep if you don't hide your powerlevel or share the exact same opinions as everyone else. Hate how SJWs form mobs to denounce thought-criminals? The *exact* same shit happens in rural communities across the globe and when I first moved to a city with more than a million people I found it utterly liberating to know that few people gave a fuck about what I wore or if I had an anime wallpaper on my laptop

>>156395575
I grew up in a rural fringe area that slowly became a suburb, so I know the best and worst of both worlds.
90% of my beef with country AND suburban living is the utter lack of public transit. Having to drive everywhere is a pain in the ass, owning a car is a BIGGER pain in the ass, and if you don't own a car you're relying on people for rides everywhere except to the store to buy liquor and junk food.
Also jobs are nowhere to be found unless you enjoy working part-time for some chain restaurant or cleaning company

>>156433731
>without fear of being hit by cars or kidnapping
Where I lived, that gets traded for fear of coyotes and wildcats
>>
God, reading through this thread gives a weird feeling. Like you want to act like a grown fucking adult, and make important decisions about your life.
I think, given the choice, I'd move to a nice mid sized city. A city in burgerland, so hopefully about as dense as a japanese suburb, just, minus the trains. I just want to be where my peers are. To have the option to be surrounded by actual nerds my own age, once in a while. That means going where the jobs are, and getting a job so I can afford to live where the jobs are.
Fuck...

Hunters have easy access to hunting rifles, it's just fucking not economic to actually hunt for foxes because of law. You can at least sell boar meat to some restaurant, eh? With foxes, you have to bring corpse to veterinarian (real fun for you and local veterinarian to drive with fucking corpse around), and utilise it by yourself, to get 50 złoty/10 pounds? I don't remember exact ampunt, but that was fucking cheap. Nobody would hunt foxes for money, utilisation itself would be too expensive. If you don't have hunter papers, you can't hunt, killing animal would be an offense. Having gun in Poland isn't that hard, but you need some paperwork done first. And shooting someone with a gun, even in defense, would be serious offense as fuck - you would get jailed instead of a robber. People over here don't have guns. Just airguns, and not everyone - even in countryside. Our meat - and food in general - is pretty much superior to most countries in whole Europe, foods are our main exports to whole EU. It's cheap, healthy and tasty. I can't believe how shitty bread is in UK for example, it's basically health hazard.

>4-5 am in countryside means you will wake up to birds singing everywhere, that's the hour when they are most active. Charming.
Never understood that argument. In summer I leave windows open at night night and I don't remember ever waking up because of birds. I do often wake up to passing cars and sirens when I'm in the city, so I guess it depends on what are you used to.

>>156441215
> or if I had an anime wallpaper on my laptop
You deserve all the ostracism you get. I hope those villagers will bully you even more
>>
>>156442382
Birds are mating in spring. It's kinda obvious you won't hear them that much in summer. Depends. Maybe your location isn't attractive to birds at all. They need bushes, trees, something where they can build a nest.
>>
>>156442575
There's shitload of birds in my area and they are vocal, it's just that the sound doesn't bother me. Unless you live in a swamp and have cranes and shit screechnig all day I fail to see how birds are more annoying than cars.

How hard is it to give hunters a seasonal license to kill 'X' many number of foxes, and charge almost nothing for it so population control is incentivized? Problem would solve itself, hunters do a service, sell the fur, maybe eat the meat, etc...

>>156443296

Population control gives zero fucks, as the balance must be maintained, or the ecosystem is fucked. Or it should, anytime PETA opens its mouth here in the states, everyone just laughs at them for being attention-whoring morons.
>>
>>156443296
As someone else said, the restrictions on game meat are very strict, people do it mostly as hobby since it's not worth the effort to seriously make money. Plus there is a social stigma on hunters, they are seen as brutal savages and mass media love to dwell on that. The last Berlinale had Polish movie Spood whose main theme was how cruel and backwards hunters are. Guess foxes. are cuter than hares, pheasants and chickens, since any time local authorities organise fox hunting they will het so much shit for it they won't do it twice.
