You did, but I'm going to argue both points starting with the latter.

In a lot of series the slave collars cannot be removed without killing the slave. Obviously the meta-reason for this is to enable the protagonist to own slaves while still being the good guy because "please don't throw me away goshujin-sama, you're so much nicer than other slave owners" and such. Besides the whole thing would be rather ineffective if it could be easily removed at which point you have to ask: what's the point of including it in the first place?

For the former point I'd say what if having it be a huge, bulky and visible collar is not a technical choice, but is meant to visibly differentiate the slave as a slave? On the other hand if this kind of magic is possible then surely it must also be possible to put it into a smaller, more easily concealed form like an armband for example.

I remember in the Shanara books the Druid magic would age them, essentially shortening their lifespan. They were able to still live very, very long lives by going into a Druid sleep to hibernate until they were needed again. So the setting both used the life shortening magic, by showing it, and having one of the first Druids you meet age himself so badly he needs to find an apprentice to channel his magic through to save the day, and then passes his knowledge on with what time he has left. You see those effects. You could say the druid sleep makes that have less of an impact though, when you can still be dealing with the same Druid a hundred years later.
