nhaa it wasn't always shit, it was good for around 400 chapters, after the first title defence the author started milking the shit out of the manga and started creating bullshit characters (the jumping monkey, the magician who can damage you by slapping you with the glove, the 5'5'' guy who has the muscles of a body builder but can still be a fetherweight, the ''i kick people in the head and the referee doesn't notice since he's a fucking retard'', the "he would've been champion if x wasn't there", mr invincible mexican, mr "my punches are the weakest ever but i can still ko a guy with 4 hits and break both my hands and approach sound barrier with a punch while all of my ribs are shattered, gonzo etc..) and futile plot devices like "ippo r u broken" for 16 chapters straight then come to the conclusion that ippo in unbreakable.

according to wiki:
he is 6'1" and in a middleweight class
so he basically has to reach 154(max for junior middle) to 160(max for regular middleweight).
seeing how hes super ripped, it probably is a few pounds off from reality. but he looks almost 190-200 normal and when he cuts he goes down to 175-180.
in the show he probably cuts from 167-171 down to fighting weight.

That's a genuine stance.
As some people already guessed it is about provocation and reacting more easily by knowing what the opponent is likely to do. It is surprisingly good at putting pressure on the opponent.
Just look for open guards fighters. It is rare, it can be dangerous and probably end poorly, but it is not made up by the author.
