Hikaru no Go directly shaped a large part of my personality. Before that show, I wasn't really that ambitious, I didn't compete too hard with other people, etc. After watching it, I could never settle for second best again, and I wanted to go down in history as being really great at whatever my chosen profession was, just like Sai wanted to be the greatest Go player. Up until I would play an instrument for a little while, get bored, and bounce to another. And no, I didn't pick up guitar. I already had an on and off relationship with drums so I decided to continue with that. I later joined a punk band that have become the most important people in my life and now I'm fairly content.

The way I see it, there are two kinds of people doing politics. Those who believe they can make an impact for the better, and those who just want power. Many are somewhere in between, but what about those who just want power?
When you stop caring, you let others take charge and thus you lose your right to protest when something goes down the drain. Ultimately, the belief that it doesn't matter who's in charge is only useful to make you feel less guilty about your own lack of involvment.

Watching FMA during my formative years maybe particially responsible for my becoming an atheist. Around 13 years old I had become distanced from my evangelical father and was starting to question the existance of god. I think seeing a protagonist with secular beliefs and a moral code that wasn't based on scripture helped me sort out some of my confusion, even if I didn't recognize the effect it had on me until I was older.

I read the entire series in the space of several days, I was so hooked on it. It made me want to train a lot harder, and Yuu is a very relatable character so that helped even more. It was like watching myself in highschool again.

I'd like it to get an anime adaptation but it's going to be difficult to do it properly. Unless they forgo the detailed explainations during the fights.
