Yuki Yuna is a COMPLETELY ORIGINAL anime that happens to bear a cosmetic similarity to Madoka. It's an allegory for the experiences of the average Japanese soldier in WW2.

Madoka meanwhile is a blatant ripoff of Kamen Rider Ryuki with some Evangelion, Bokurano, and Princess Tutu thrown in. Toei should've sued the shit out of Aniplex.

Yup the vertexs didn't take any inspiration from angels.
And the characters and their dynamics didn't follow any sort of formulaic design already set up by prior magical girl anime. Togo and Yuna certainly bare no similarities in character arc to Homura and Madoka. The only thing the series can claim as truly original is disabling the main cast.

I agree it's unoriginal, but you are surely overstating how original Homura and Madoka was.

I never said they were original, but when you have two yuri bait magical suffering girls with the same color scheme and character dynamic as a popular show that came before it, drawing a comparison is perfectly understandable.

I will go as far as to say Yuna is Madoka done right. She is shown trying her best to help people out and seeks opportunities to aid her community through the hero club, while still addressing her own shortcomings when it comes to smarts or general skill. Madoka is only shown lamenting how useless she is and how she wants to help people, but takes no initiative before gaining powers. So while I still say Yuna is unoriginal, that doesn't make her terrible because she builds upon what was established. The rest of the cast don't really add to their archetypes, however, so I can't help but write them off.
