You know, I just took a quick peek at the MAL forums a couple hours ago, and my god, I mean, it's fine to criticize, but some of those people really come across like they're out on their way to hate on this movie. It's like the IMDB boards (RIP) in there, where people take personal offense at a movie they don't love getting rated high.

Well the fact that Taki was confused with Mitsuha calling him a baka hentai after telling her that he drank the kuchikamizake meant that he really didn't know.

He probably knew of the concept of kuchikamizake, but didn't occur to him that it's actually made traditionally, and with Mitsuha's spit.
