Not only do most Americans speak English exclusively unless they're of hispanic or some other descent that hasn't integrated yet, most language courses in every high-school, regardless of country, are pitifully bad, with the majority of students getting nothing out of those lessons.

Why? Because learning another language is time intensive (if you want to do a good job), and the current education system is preferential towards sciences, not social studies or humanities. Unless you're doing a specific course on a language or your high school knows what it's doing then you're going to be the equivalent of a Chinese or Japanese person trying to speak English. And unless you're George Takei, we all know how that goes.

Knowing 5 (five) fucking languages (provided anon is actually fluent in all of them) is a fucking proper achievement, I don't know what kind of utopia you're living in where everyone speaks that many languages, but it sure as shit ain't on Earth.
