I have terabytes in the hardisk and optical fibers connection. Still don't see why subbers should do a crappy job at recoding for this reason and waste unnecessary space in my external hardisks.

You're not preserving art, here. You're making a screenshot of a video. You're posting it on an image board where it will be viewed for a few seconds by some people and then never seen again. Maybe if you're taking a screenshot to serve as a desktop background then the huge increase in file size might be worth the tiny increase in quality.
>>156034756
Jpg is worst if not set properly.
Too many softwares compress too much.
I usually save bmp and jpg later trough photoshop with max settings.
>>156034903
Except it isn't. Anime is so incredibly simplistic in nature jpg can basically capture it without any loss, assuming the jpg quality is set high enough. PNGs are reserved for detailed still artwork (such as pixiv art) and anything that has a large amount of text (such as a screenshot of this thread).

Probably different player settings.

It all comes to one thing. Do you see a difference or not? If you're watching on a 720p laptop screen, you won't be really taking advantage of 1080p unless you don't give a fuck about bandwidth. If you have a good high-resolution monitor and a good enough PC, using 720p for some shows might be a waste but It can be still convenient if you care about HDD space or bandwidth.
>>156039644
>Can your toaster play 10-bit 1080p with madvr on high settings without stuttering like a retard? 720p on high settings might look better than 1080p on low settings.
Isn't it the amount you're trying to upscale that matters? For if you have a 1080p monitor and are playing 1080p content, it'll should be less of a burden on your system than if you're upscaling 720p content with the same settings. Correct me if I'm wrong.

NGU anti-alias on medium, NNEDI3 high neurons, xbr is good too. But what if a show is native 720? Why would you download a 1080 upscale?
>>156051868
Many shows are native 900p.
>>156051868
Because the 1080p has more video bandwidth you stupid fuck?
Only a fucking retard would settle for 720p if a 1080p release exists.

720p

>being retarded and ignorant
If the 1080p is an upscale of a 720p master, you want the fucking 720p. What the fuck do you think happens, that upscaling it just creates data out of nowhere? No, you moron. Upscaling it doesn't suddenly look better nor does it magically make more bits and most times your video player can upscale real time significantly better than upscale encodes. Just the same, your video player generally downscales much better as well.
Stop being a retard. You download whatever the master is, that's how you get the best quality. The only exception is for shit HS rips because streaming sites get their masters from the tv station broadcasters and they generally give them 1080p masters even if the show is natively 720p.
