Here's the thing. Meili brought a shit ton of de-horned dogs as backup, and used herself as bait for a trap. The whole scheme is kind of weird. One thing is certain. Meili had a backup plan that required someone to discover the curse, and enough numbers to take out someone of moderate power. Subaru is an unskilled fighter, hardly the kind of person who'd have been expected to be sent out to defend the village if it were threatened.

Though I suppose the whole thing also falls apart if Roswaal is there to do anything about it. Also, why the hell would Garf bother Roswaal in one loop and not the other? Did the assassins in have an agent in Sanctuary to cause a disturbance, to get Roswaal out of the way if they suspected they might have to move to Plan B?
