And they changed the Gelgoog fight that immediately follows. The movie is more action packed, but it gets rid of the part where Amuro is newtyping so hard that Char can't get the jump on him. That's like my maybe my favourite scene, so maybe it matters more to me than it does to you

TV series has a lot of cool stuff the movies are missing.
Like the civilians on the White Base wanting to get off the ship, or when they first arrive on earth and Amuro goes rampage, or when Amuro ran away and attacked a mining base on his own, or Ryu's funeral, or the salt arc, or the absolutly beautiful "Here comes Char" scene and let's not forget about the Gyan fight and the salt arc.

Zeta and Unicorn are unironically the only good Gundam shows. 00 is decent as well, especially the first season. Almost every other show is complete fucking garbage, including the ones currently running like Thunderbolt and Origin. I dont even get why I still bother with that franchise consider how much shit I have watched. Ended up being disappointed almost constantly.

Mecha is such a hit or miss genre its unreal. Either you have top notch entertainment (Escaflowne, Unicorn, Zeta, Fafner Exodus, Break Blade) or you end up with a pile of complete shit (almost all Gundam shows, Valvrave, Muv Luv, Aldnoah, Eureka). The only show I can recall that is neither good nor bad is Majestic Prince. Fuck this goddamn genre.

After finishing VOTOMS some years ago, I decided to hold off on watching the gaiden to have something to look forward to.
It's been long enough, gonna give it a spin this week.

I didn't really enjoy VOTOMs, I really wanted to though. I like where it went and everything, but I couldn't get into some of the arcs.
I preferred Dougram, as while Dougram had a weaker first 30-40 episodes, the second half was amazing. Once the revolutionary war began in earnest, I was hooked.

My knowledge of older mecha series (hell new ones too) can be pretty lacking.

Dougram has the same sort of problem that the original Gundam has, in that the Dougram is semi-super, but it gets better in that wonderful second half I mentioned.

There's Gunbuster, which is like a super-robot in a real robot setting.

In more recent years, Argevollen really struck me with how grounded it is, in tone. It's got problems, but I think its worth checking out. Now that I think about it, it's kind of got that above mentioned Gundam/Dougram problem too, but similarly, as the war goes on the technology begins to catch up to the main mecha.

UC as a whole generally stands head and shoulders above anything Gundam later spawned. Shit, I think Turn A is pretty much the only GOOD full series released outside of UC. It's no coincidence Thunderbolt was actually good.
