Honest opinion of bakabt?
>>
It was the best place to download most anime. Now I think I will move to AB because building ratio on Bakabt is pain. They accept things too slow even if you offer obivously best stuff out there.
>>
The only place for old and obscure animu for me, now I can only watch new shit from nyaa
>>
>>155912686
Request reseeds on nyaa.
>>
>>155912474
Do they have same seeding point system as Jpopsuki? I'm always seeding some torrents (like 100 on Jpopsuki) but since it's completely random if people download some shit then even with high speed upload I send only like 10-50MB per month so the "points for time seeding torrents" is a fantastic system. Does BakaBT have the same system? If no then… well, shit, since I've been downloading tons of stuff and seeding it for long time too yet with BakaBT I never uploaded a byte. Wasn't logged in so thay may be the reason why.

What is AB?
>>
I rarely used it because I only follow the current season's shows, having already seen most of the worthwhile old anime before 2010.

But when I did use BakaBT, it was really good. It reminded me of an honest AnimeSuki. AnimeSuki back in the day hosted illegal torrents but the forum was filled with hypocritical faggots who would deny wrongdoing. At least BakaBT's community was honest about what they were doing and didn't give no fucks.

Jews finally killed them and that's a tragedy. Jews hate us poorfags.

AB staff said in the BakaBT thread that the support/recovery channel on IRC got spammed with tons of people wanting to regain access to their account, but none got theirs back because all of them where disabled either for cheating and H&R's. Those who seed and respect the private tracker atmosphere are already on AB, and those currently trying to get in due to BBT's won't get accepted either way.

While I dislike /a/'s lazy mindset surrounding torrenting, it is worth mentioning that anime piracy has never been closer to collapse than ever before. The only real "strongholds" left are nyaa+HS, which are pretty much one identity.

Basically, take the most pathetic of /a/'s ronery threads and the worst of crazy tranny stereotypes.
>>
>>155914775
>that anime piracy has never been closer to collapse than ever before
>The only real "strongholds" left are nyaa+HS
Not really no. You'll be surprised by how the russians, gooks and chinks are archiving stuff as well.
>>
>>155914775
That's why I hate those idiots who cheer everytime something like this happens, because normalfags get BTFO or bullshit like that.
Any pirating site is good for us just by existing, just by being a possible source in case something happens, that very much includes streaming sites.
We don't have to use them, but the more material is distributed, the better. Minor sites dying, usually due lack of support is one thing, but any major death is dangerous, especially if pressure from content providers is to blame: it gives them victories and makes them look way more powerfull than they are, which might scare others into giving up, too. BakaBT were idiots for going private, considering nyaa exists.
And AB might die tomorrow for some reason, things like that happened, what will those cheering faggots do then?
The more the better, but there have been very few new big piracy groups in the last few years.
>>
>>155914871
There was no reason, because options existed that didn't require application.
It's actually understandable most people never tried.
>>
>>155914883
I look at his post history and the first thing I see is an apology for real life pedofilia. Sheesh. Now I'm scared of inviting people from here. On a side note, do you know if inviting /a/nons is a bannable offense?
>>
>>155914975
>do you know if inviting /a/nons is a bannable offense?
Technically, the rules already said you shouldn't invite through public sites. But traditionally, they don't give a fuck with people flat out saying they've done so. Can't say about now.
>>
>>155915054
Probably better to wait until the BakaBT craze died down.
>>
>>155914932
Pretty much.

With that said though, BBT isn't necessarily going private. The current downtime is mainly them changing servers, presumably to one not in US/some other country that doesn't give a shit.
>>
>>155915108
Hah, no chance in hell.
Because why scare the users like that?
Just take it down for a while, say on twitter you're changing servers because of the reasons and be back within days/a week, and all with little drama.
No, they're real.
>>
No opinion since I can't download off them.
>>
>>155914924
>You'll be surprised by how the russians, gooks and chinks are archiving stuff as well.
I wouldn't go as far as to say that stuff is lost, there will always be people who archive high quality encodes and raw's. The real difficulty is to centralize seeders around a public platform so that everyone profits from it while remaining immune to DCMA and co.

>>155914932
Torrents and especially magnet links make it possible to keep data alive without retaining availability of a single site, which is a huge advantage over traditional online piracy, though as the past has shown us with the first incarnation of the pirate bay, kat.cr etc. that seeders leave non-site bound torrents simply because the community was destroyed.

Small sites can't carry all the weight, and the community surrounding piracy (not just anime) is very centralized, more so as we would wish.
>>
>>155914971
AB is actually medium/high size when it comes to private tracker size. I wouldn't call it a small at all.
>>
>>155914775
xdcc bots have been the same shit for 25 years, what are you even talking about? the only thing is newsgroups died and torrents become the main thing people use.
>>
>>155915308
>xdcc bots have been the same shit for 25 years
Good luck getting anything from bots when they get 1000x the ususal traffic.
>>
>>155915308
xdcc, samba, ddl and other centralized ftp-based piracy options only work with small groups of leachers since costs can easily go out of hand for the hoster.

10+ year ago the amount of people depending on XDCC etc. was so small that this was never an issue.

Basically this >>155915408
>>
>>155915217
That still doesn't mean it's
>has never been closer to collapse than ever before
>>
How many years of enjoying anime do we have left? Amazon and Steam got enough money to kill places like hs or nyaa.
>>
>>155915521
Technically it is, doesn't mean it's imminent.
There's certainly a trend I don't like at all: way too few subbing groups, a major torrent source essentially dying for everyone, streaming sites being more worthless than ever before, direct downloads being dead, AB not having applications and so on.

I used it a little before I got invited into AB, It's useful but you have so many alternative these days so I don't know why everyone is overreacting to them going Private.
>>
>>155914971
Sure, I get why people never bothered applying. But then they shouldn't go around saying shit like
>you can't actually check for yourself whether they tell the truth or not
and trying to paint AB like some super secret hard to get into club when it's not.
>>
>>155915633
>streaming sites
usually I stream two or three episodes to see if it's worth watching, then I download - and back in the day, before I knew about torrents and before I visited /a/, I streamed everything.
And they have become fucking lazy: no updates to BD-releases, even if they're uncensored, over-reliance on one or two players, with videos usually having only one, dead vids everywhere and no one giving a fuck about reports.
Remember animecrazy? They died in 2013.
After megaupload died in 2011 or so they replaced all megaupload-streams within a few days, and they used them for half of their shows. Last streaming site I used for more than getting myself a sample. Such dedication doesn't exist anymore.
>>
>>155915633
There is no technically because your trends are bullshit. There's fewer sub groups because we have more official sources now. Torrent sites come and go, it's nothing new. Illegal stream sites become more worthless because legal streams are more common. Pirates are still ripping from official sources so you're still getting your free shows.

Direct downloads aren't dead, you just don't know where to look for the replacements. AB having no applications is due to their current capacity met. Again, nothing new, they've closed and then open when they are able to increase capacity.

Stop scaremongering, for fuck's sake.

It's all automated. You type the command the bot gives you, and if that's not enough to reenable your account it puts you in the queue.
In that case you wait until someone from the staff PMs you (it could a be a long wait).

I do not know much about AB as I have been using BakaBT for many years.
I know BakaBT is not down permanently, however, this brings to light that I should use many different sources and I would also like to contribute making torrents and sharing torrents.
Are there any good websites that talk about creating and sharing torrents?
Like for example if I wanted to download Dr.Slump from BakaBT and then upload that torrent to AB or Nyaa, if there any information on that?
>>
>>155921825
It's probably already on AB. Fucking almost everything is on AB. I'm not even joking.

>>155921862

That's hilarious but shows how little you watch. There's a surprising amount of stuff on Bakabt that isn't available on AB because it was either never uploaded or was uploaded a few years ago but the torrent was automatically pruned because nobody was fucking seeding.

I mostly read visual novels, and I've recently started reading light novels. I was going by the considerably large collection they have of VNs, though they are still missing quite a bit. I guess the lower amount of works helps in uploading everythin worthy of downloading.

It depends on the show. IRC has some things readily available that aren't currently seeded on Nyaa. For example, some things which still have a fansubbed version uploaded (Igano_Kabamaru, Gosenzosama), and some things with R1 DVD rips (Battle Athletes Victory, a fair amount of Exiled-Destiny rips)

There are some other titles though which are currently unseeded without a readily available IRC source though. such as Future Police Urashiman and Plawres Sanshiro

You have to be an absolutely greedy piece of shitto to go to those shitty websites and sell invites. Especially because if you're caught, literally everyone is banned so there's not even a good payoff out of it. A large majority of it I haven't watched. To compile the list of titles to add I looked at:

-rankings on ANN, AniDB, MAL (lol), and other sites
-titles by genre
-titles by year
-titles by director and producer
-titles by studio
-various "watch these" thumbnail sheets, like the kind you posted on /r/ recommendation threads
-Various other lists on forums online
-my own knowledge from watching anime

Most anime post-2011 is shit, so a lot of that is lacking. I'm sure I'm missing some older gems too, like Giant Gorg. If anyone has any suggestions of things to add, I'll put them in my 'Anime to DL.txt' file.

I suppose I'll probably need to grab an invite somewhere at some point, though I'm hoping that BakaBT ends up being open enough after the dust settles, since my old account was pruned. Not exactly in a rush though, thanks to having most hard to find titles I'm interested in archived.

Part of that is due to the prep time it takes post and after download. The file system is very organized (autism powers ENGAGE).

Each sub-title has a "preview image" which can be browsed to view the titles by image.

Each subtitle also has a "quality info" file, which I'll eventually add to a searchable database.
>>
>>155914305
1080p is just bloat. Very few anime is even made for that resolution so you're just getting an upscale. 720p's the superior option.

Yeah, I could script it, but a lot of times I feel like those images don't accruately represent the series. I'd rather spend the time and find the images manually.

And on the file System organization, each main Title gets it's own folder (ex. Sailor Moon). Each subtitle (ex. Sailor Moon Sailor Stars) then gets a subfolder. Each subfolder gets a preview image and qaulity info file.

The preview images are named the same title as the subtile, as are the qaulity info files.

On the root of each drive a "Catalogue" folder exists, with an "Info Files" folder, containing all info file .txt files. Also a "Preview Image" folder, containing all preview images. Titles with multiple subtitles that do not start with the main title (ex. 'Turn A Gundam.jpg') are renamed in this folder to have the main title before the subtitle (ex 'Gundam - Turn A Gundam.jpg') to allow the preview images to be browsed alphabetically by main title.

There is also a 'File List.PDF' which is basically a 'find' command pulling the file list in 'main title---subtitle' format, allowing all titles to be viewed via text. This is what the pastebins I posted are.

The above exist individually for Anime, Hentai, Manga, and Live Action.

The Conan vs Lupin movie is an example of that. For these rare instance, I put the video files in one main title's folder (ex. Conan), along with the "quality info.txt" file and preview image. In the other main title's folder (ex. Lupin), I simply put the preview image and "quality info" file but no actual video files.

This may cause someone to have to switch disks to actually play the video file (ex. Lupin is on disk 3, while Conan is on disk 1), but as far as browsing the series goes (whether that be through the pdf file list, preview images, etc.), the experience is unaffected and everything still stays in easy to browse main title---subtitle alphabetical arrangement.

The organization is all manually done, except for ensuring the data on the main and backup disks stays the same. For that I use Beyond Compare.

I started in fall of 2013. Working on it was my way of coping with the breakup of a long term GF who I had lived in multiple states with and my way of hiding from the world due to too much social anxiety from too much weed (had recently moved to the W Coast at that point).

A large majority of the work (about 1,100 titles) added over 2013-2014. The remaining titles were added over the 2015-2017 range, but I slowed down a lot on it then, as I moved onto other things. I still work on it now and then and probably will have it done by the end of the year.

Yeah, but the point of the collection isn't to download every title possible. 95% of anime is not worth watching. Rather, the point is to have a collection of the best and essential titles of various time periods, genres, studios, directors, animators, themes, etc..

Of course "best" is completely up to opinion, but that's why I tried to be very comprehensive in creating my list of what to download. Here is a small sample of some of what I used to build the download list:

What are the offenes that absolutely result in you as the inviter being banned?

You negotiate in the throwaway email address for the person to send you their actual address. I at least am really skeptical of trackers sniffing around for mails. >>
>>155934172
>>155934417
It's true. Happens in cabal trackers especially. Hence /ptg/'s autism when it comes to staying /pure/.
>>
>>155934003
Invitees getting disabled for petty shit will at most get your invites disabled and a warning. If they found out you gave away invites publicly/sold them/cheated (or your invitee did) that's probably a ban if not a treeban.
>>
>>155934417
The only thing I know of is that inviting undesirables can get you banned (because the thing you did indirectly 'harms' the site, kinda makes sense), seems pretty strange to ban a good user just because the guy who invited him did something bad (your actions never affected the site in a bad way, would seem retarded to ban you, kinda like punishing children for their parent's crime).
>>
>>155934562
>If they found out you gave away invites publicly/sold them/cheated (or your invitee did) that's probably a ban if not a treeban.
I would never invite anybody in this situation.
>>
>>155933812
It says:
Obtaining your invite from a public giveaway is prohibited.
But if you get to know the anon before hand rather than sending an invite based off of their favorite anime, that's rule breaking. I get to know them first.
>>
>>155915308
>newsgroups

Where do you go for shit now after that's gone? I've been completely out of the loop for awhile now.
>>
>>155933812
>Not to mention it's explicitly against the rules to invite someone you don't know on a public forum or giveaway.
So if they are never open and I live in a 3rd world country (so there's no way my friends use AB) then I'm fucked forever?
Fuck this secret club mentality. At least it's feasible to get into goddess and sadpanda. This is just plainly retarded.
>>
>>155934686
First person I ever invited was some flipfag kid. Didn't get to know him before hand cause I was an idiot, luckily the guy actually followed rules and seeded despite his abysmal speed.
So I basically befriended my invitee after the fact.
>>
When I make my new build I'm just going to start downloading everything I could ever want to watch or read. It will always be easy to get recent stuff so it's not an issue.
I'm way too worried piracy in general is going to collapse. I'm seeing way too many trackers, fan subbers, irc channels, etc. dying
>>
>>155934860
They'll open applications eventually. Chill the fuck out.
>>
>>155934860
You're not fucked if you stay /pure/ by playing the private tracker rpg and climbing the user classes to get invited by recruitment threads on sites.
Some /a/non claimed he got into AB by signing up for Pornbay (open private tracker) then getting into Emp then OT then AB.
>>
>>155934982

I got into the biggest Norwegian tracker by starting with AnimeBytes.

I really should get into one of the bigger porn trackers, but I just just have the energy to go through another application and seeding hell.
>>
>>155935058
>just haven't got the energy to go through another application and seeding hell.

I don goofed. I'm getting tired.
>>
>>155934982
not him, but I have a decent pornolab ratio, does that count?
>>
>>155925168
Me too, I don't even remember which channels I'm supposed to go to or probably even how to use it.
>>
>>155935112
depends if pornolab has a worthwhile invite forim
>>
Biggest problem with AB is that 1080p is always freeleach. So people download that. So if you download 720p, you have no one to upload to. It's fucking annoying because 1080p is a waste for 95% of series
>>
>>155934889
Someone invited me through a mutual friend on Twitter. They kept asking me questions and asked for seeding proof. I didn't provide proof (I didn't seed) but promised I would on AB. We talked after that too. So far my invite has been a person I know. The other I'm going to talk to for a week or two then decide. They took a chance on me and I ended up fine so I feel I should do the same for someone else. I don't want to take that chance of not talking to them or sending them the rules in advance. If you send them the rules, they know what they signed up for, even though its easy as hell to maintain a good ratio. Some people get the invite and don't do shit and let it go inactive or they download like crazy and their ratio is shit. That's my worst fear. With 10 GB upload you can get to 50 download to get to .20.
>>
>>155935212
then no
>>
I wish I knew who the hell invited me.
>>
>>155935275
>It's fucking annoying because 1080p is a waste for 95% of series

I just delete everything after I've watched, so I really doesn't care. 150 mbits reporting in.
>>
>>155935488
Nah I need it archived for when piracy is dead.
>>
Has something happened to Bakabt im not aware of? I just started watching Tokimeki Tonight, fuck.
>>
>>155934982
But ultimately I will never get accepted into AB, because I know nobody who uses it. Or is the word misused and is it enough to "know" them from another private tracker?
>>
>>155934936
>eventually
Yeah, for one day 5 years from now and I won't find about it until it's long over. Fuck them, fuck my life and fuck this gay world.
>>
>>155934936
when is eventually, it's been forever already
>>
>>155935644
Yeah you can 'know' someone from another private tracker, especially if he is someone you trust and can vouch for.
>>
>>155935630
They have been targeted by C&Ds, and so their server provider told them to fuck off. Now they're changing provider and they might go private after that.
>>
>>155935706
>>155935703
It's every 3 years or so. Be patient. In the meantime learn how to actually find shit. Learn how to use XDCC/XDCC searchers, search for checksums, etc.
And don't tell me you're already an expert because if you had been here long enough you would have an AB account.
>>
>>155935275
Get KyoAni series seed and wait for freeleeches and sitewide freeleeches. Bookmark is the greatest function on the site.
>>
>>155935533

Something new always rises from the ashes of the old. I don't really think it will be hard to pirate something in the future.

It's a bitch that some old porn videos are harder to find now though. After a porn star har retired, it's usually a lot harder to find porn of them. That's really why I want to get on a private porn tracker, but I'm not really sure if I'll find what I'm looking for there.
>>
>>155935877
>Learn how to use XDCC/XDCC searchers
>expert
Are you for real?
>In the meantime learn how to actually find shit.
I can find everything I want, I just want to get in because I can't get in.
>>
I got pruned from AB and BT for not using either

Had 3Tb uploaded on BT too
>>
>>155936044
>pruning for being inactive on the site even if you seed all the time
Really retarded.

This is collection Anon from above. Who wants to shoot me an invite to AB? I've obviously got plenty to seed.

Some favorite anime:
-Lain
-Ping Pong
-Master Keaton
-Jin-Roh
-Millenium Actress
-Nodame

My brother quit school and became a loser because of IRC almost twenty years ago.

It took him fifteen years to fucking finish high school and start studying.
>>
>>155935877
when was the last time if it's every 3 years, feels longer than that
>>
My ISP is garbage and DMCA'd me a little while back after a couple years of using nyaa. I switched to AB after that and it's been good to me so far, but I haven't used BakaBT much. However, it didn't seem like it had the sheer amount of content that AB had.
>>
>>155936817
He's bullshitting, last time applications were open was just last year.
>>
>>155936946
What specifically did they send the DMCA for? I can't imagine any current shows would get you a notice
>>
>>155936975
I do imagine licensed airing shows could give you warnings.
>>
>>155934903
Yeah I'm starting this now. I just found an empty 2TB hard drive in my closet that I plan on filling with strictly torrents. I really hope BakaBT comes back, there's a lot of good stuff out there that I really want to archive.
>>

/m/ is surely a slow board.

shit then my sense of time is REALLY fucked

What? When did /rs/ die?

m**t killed it like two or three years ago

Pretty sure it's about four five years ago.

Some guy from /qa/ had created a new /rs/ at https://rs.w4ch.xyz/ but apparently it's dead now, just like /qa/

I mostly used it for amateur porn.
I guess chaturbate and the like has taken it's place.

I believe /rs/ was still up back then, but I might be just remembering wrong.

I'm pretty sure some porn I downloaded was jail bait. But then again, I'm pretty sure some of the cam whores around aren't 18 either.
>>
Can someone just tell me when does AB open applications? I'm too awkward to ask for invites so I don't want to miss it.
>>
>>155938861
Any day now
>>
>>155938861
AB mods said they're not going to open them just because BBT died.
>>
>>155938861
You won't know in advance so you will miss it just like I do every time they open.
>>
>>155939102
But I do remember seeing threads about it everytime this silly thing happens

>>155938809
>I'm pretty sure some porn I downloaded was jail bait.
motherfucker I miss it
>>
>>155939102
Do you know how long they stay open?
..at least 24 hours, I hope?
I'm thinking of making it a habit to check their website every morning.
>>
>>155939217
I don't browse /a/ too often. Maybe I should.
