At least Ideon didn't try to be anything other than a clusterfuck (such is the nature of Tomino). Eva tried to be deep, but became a clusterfuck without realizing.

Eva is just an anime with a somewhat realistic talk about depression. It isnt even that realistic or profound, just some.

However the character pool in anime story has been so fucking stagnant for the last 30 years with terrible one dimensional characters that it really stands out.

It does have a very, very strong draw to it. Not sure which. Probably we are depressed neet weebs and relate way too much with the characters.

I felt exactly the same until once I've watched jjba and forgot about dat shit forever.
