I never get this criticism. It might not be a complex show but the dramatic stakes are high for most of the episodic characters. I end up caring more about them then I do some main characters in 26 episode shows.

It's boring because the pacing is painfully slow. While the stakes are high, they are also presented in a calm manner. There are very few situations where the atmosphere in Natsume becomes tense enough to stimulate excitement of any kind.

Just because the characters are written well doesn't mean it isn't boring.
