Also if Rin didn't intervene during their mind battle, Shoufukan would have won and Rin would have discovered Shou's true nature. Remember, even Rin wasn't aware that Shou was OP.

If you pay attention to Shou's words and even the line that they use in TBF's website you can figure out that Shou only resorts to killing if he can't avoid it or if his enemy can't be negotiated with.

Did you forget that when they were having tea Phoenix couldn't find a way to kill Shou throughout the entire conversation? Dude has an iron defense and as we've seen he's a powerhouse by wuxia standards.

The point of Shou's character is that he's the protagonist of another story that already ended. He's singlehandedly conquered multiple "Bones of Creation" type villains on his own continent and taken their swords because they were being pains in his dick.

S1 was supposed to be an introduction to both Pili puppetry and also wuxia as a genre that's why Butcher kept things tame and had a fantasy story which is something japs are familiar with.
Next season is going to be crazier and more wuxia heavy to be a bit more like a Pili series, which are apparently a lot out of there, with insane power levels and things like vampires are accepted.

TBF is just preparation to watch Pili shows, after S2 I would imagine they're going to announce a dub or sub of their most popular series and license it in Japan.

Series has never been subbed, probably because each episode is 90 minutes long with each season having around 40 episodes.
Also the series handles continuity the same way comic books do, which makes it even harder to get into the series.

The point of the series is subterfuge with a hint of mystery. While at the same time subverting tropes of the quest story. I think it delivered on that.

As I thought, S1 is just a test to other countries' audience except Taiwan. Urobutcher just try to tell you how good this art platform is. S2 is the start of Urobutcher's style. No, it's because you were expecting standard battle manga setting when it's actually NOT a standard shounen battle manga and was never meant to be one. TF was never about the fights. It bears repeating that Urobuchi likes Gu Long's works and in his works, the characters tend to already be established and we don't really see the process of the MC going from weak to strong.

Remember how pissed off people were with that Katanagatari scene? Exactly. TF isn't meant to be like Bleach where watching the MC grows stronger is part of the point. TF is more like Blade of the Immortal where the MC is already strong so we're exploring a DIFFERENT type of conflict. You don't go and claim that works like Blade of Immortal is bad because it doesn't function like a jump battle manga because they're completely different types of works with different focus.
