Really that's the problem with most things in Re:Zero. I loathe cliches, there is not a single new idea in this show. Everything's been done before. I could watch any other time loop show, or any other suffering show, or any other isekai show instead really, the only reason there is to justify the time investment of this show is if you just really needed to see all three of those combined , or if you just have way too much free time. I'm reminded of some critic and average viewer disconnect in other media. The Mad Max game was criticized by critics for having filler content, whereas the average gamer just saw that as content because the average gamer wants the game to be a justification for the money they spent rather than a consistent quality product. A similar thing also happened with Suicide Squad: the average viewer loved it, while the critics thought it was cliche. The average viewer doesn't notice cliches nearly as much as someone who dedicates his job to watching many movies. I have both of these problems with Re:Zero. You guys may not be bothered by it but I am. A lot.

Nothing is original anymore. With thousands of years of recorded history, there's always gonna be overlap. What matters to me now is how good is the execution of the story. You can have two very similar story but they can end up is very different places depending on how the characters, pacing, etc is handled.

In Toyota's case, he starts his story with nothing (from zero), so the value of everything he has is exponentially greater. $50 is worth more to someone who only has $100 to their than it does to a billionaire. So when yo say "protect everything," in this case, there isn't much he has to protect, so it's done better than some other MCs in a similar situation.

Well, I haven't made much progress reading Arc 3 for a number of reasons. There are quite a lot of differences in interactions from the anime. Al and Subaru are almost perfectly in sync and bro-ing it up together, and the whole event is much livelier. If it was anything like this in the LN, they really shouldn't have tried to stuff it all into the anime.

That also makes me wonder if references to Al being isekai'd will survive in the LN. Ah well.

Well, my main concern is that the changes don't seem to be improvements. In the early LNs, I definitely see a lot of additions that helped show Subaru's interactions with the twins and Rem's perspective. That was definitely a flaw in the WN's writing.

Even if the more dickish Subaru from the WN grew on me, I can see why they made him more charming in the LN. It's funny, because I used to always see complaints about how Subaru suddenly turns into an asshole in Arc 3. There's nothing sudden about it. Rather, it's how he acts towards Rem which seems to stand out a little more, since he hasn't really been all too considerate about anyone else so far.

However, I can't say I'm too sure about why Subaru suddenly took such an interest in her. It seems to have started when he saw her more hesitant and weaker side, so I guess that got his sympathy and activated his nurturing instinct. Well, I'm going to keep reading and see if he still thinks she's fucking Roswaal or not.

Because he can relate to her. When you meet someone with a problem and you have the same problem
then you'll naturally want to help that person in hope that if he/she can overcome that problem you'll be able to overcome it as well. It was stated multiple times throughout the story that Subaru and Rem have the same flaws but it's not as apparent in Subaru's case because the tries to hide it.

It's the only series that I've actually liked in the past 3-4 seasons, so I think it's pretty good.

The best part was at the start though, but I didn't mind the white whale capture arc and subaru's redemption.

It could have been masterpiece level is everything wasn't driven my Subaru’s weird thirst for Emilia and maintained the psychological horror vibe it had early on before reinhard showed up.

I think we have different interpretations on why Subaru felt unworthy of her love. Imo it's because when he saved her, physically and mentally, in arc 2, he did it not because he wanted her praise or her love but because it just felt right to do so. Rem also doesn't know that he fucked up many loops and she died because of him.

Now Subaru wants her love and praise and wants to save her not because he must but because he wants to. This time around he can actually live up to the hero title she gave him. In Rem's case she always did stuff because she wanted to and not because she had to so when she wakes up they'll be equal.
