I am curious about starting a CD collection. I would quite like to have physically own a bunch since seeing the covers and disc feels nice.

I do, and I will pretty much shift a lot more of my buying to CDs when figures are 3d printed.
They are more expensive than CDs are in the US though. Like a full length album will cost $10 or $15 in the US, but a full length Jap album costs $30. Maybe they do it because they can since they go after pirates hard in Japan.

What's the proper etiquette for using proxies to buy backordered items? Should I wait until the item is back in stock or are they okay with me putting the order in now and waiting for however long it takes to ship?
Sorry for the repost but I have no idea and really need an answer

There's no established general etiquette for backordering via proxies, as far I as know. If you really want an answer, you should just ask your specific proxy/proxies if you haven't done so already.

Since some proxies don't have an issue with preorders, I'd assume that backorders wouldn't be much of a big deal.

I don't want "good enough", I want a figure that doesn't lose part of its paint job to the packaging. Don't have a good open area to paint her in anyway, and I doubt the little hobby stores where I live even carry the right type of paint, never mind the right colour. I'm just going to return her if I can get the right shipping method.

I'm not even sure if it's the packaging itself that caused the damage, or if a whole batch was just not dry before they were packaged. I'd hate to actually do a decent repair, put her in storage and have the whole thing happen again.

Has anyone here been to Akihabara before? Long story short is that my schedule got freed up so I'm budgeting a day to myself that will most likely be spent in Akihabara and Shinjuku. I'm looking to pick up some figures/gunpla and maybe misc. stuff like manga.

What are the best stores to shop for figures? A quick search online seems to recommend Mandrake and Jungle.
How can tell if I'm getting a good price on something without spending all day running back and forth between stores? Just check amazon.ca?
What's the deal with counterfeits? How do I tell what's what (or they labeled)? Or do these reputable stores in Akihabara sell the genuine stuff?

And finally is there anything else I should know before I head out? I'm basically flying blind here without much time to research and a loaded credit card. The guide in the OP seems to deal more with online purchases.

As far as prices, you won't find too many good deals but they usually won't be too overpriced (they are experts so they know what is a fair price).
