I do not think I have a favorite type. Sometimes I'm in the mood for some chill stuff like NNB, or a comedy like Azumanga. Others I'm in the mood for some more out-of-this-world stuff but that is still in the chill and fun spectrum, GuP, Pleiades. Then there are shows that make me appreciate the SoL and cute side of it, like Shirobako, and especially Yuuki Yuuna.

If I had to pick only one theme though, probably magic, I like witches. Would love a proper potion brewing, spell casting show. Something like classic majokko but modern. Flying Witch and LWA were fun, but I do not think they have hit all the triggers. Ideally, something like Pleiades, minus the battles, and about exploring a fantasy world.

The point of the categories is to show all the different thematic subjects that an all-girl, all-cute cast has been used to explore. It's not a recommendation chart, and in fact some of the shows on it aren't even good (as stated on said chart). It's more about compartmentalizing these different trends running through the medium.

If you look at the 5 high school shows for instance, while they differ in pacing and level of comedy, they all have nearly the same narrative trajectory. All of them follow the girls through years of high school and end with an emotional graduation, representing the same themes about growth and coming-of-age. That's why K-On belongs there, and not among the after-school club shows which are just about hijinks in those clubs, for instance. (And how has no one in this thread pointed out how badly the placement of Joshiraku was fucked up?)

Likewise for CGDCT, K-On is core, and other shows can be argued about.
But just because the borders aren't clearly defined doesn't make the genres not real, there are a bunch of shows that can easily be placed under them even if other shows are more difficult.
