All the characters are flawed in some fundamental way. Roach's flaw is that she's opportunistic. In the story, this translates to her hopping from one dick to another. Saeko's flaw is she enjoys killing and carnage. In the story this means she's strong.
I don't self insert as the MC, nor do I like him as a character, and in my opinion, Saeko still a best.

Pretty much. Shit happens I guess. For what its worth, the author was (and presumably, is) interested in continue the story.
If what I know is correct, part of the reason it was halted was because the writer wanted to kill off Saeko and have roach be Takashi's gf, but the artist likes Saeko and refused. This seems to be one of who knows how many contentions between the two. The artist moved on to Triage X and HoTD ended there.
Maybe now that all the unwilling have moved on, we can finally get more Saeko.

Basically two reasons. First, the loli in this series is basically unapproachable. She's way too pure and cute, and even in the series is a very non-lewd character, almost like a mascot type deal. I like loli, but Alice is just not that kind of character in any way. You want to protect her and nothing more.
Second reason is simpler. Saeko is literally the perfect woman, hands down. She's got it all. Looks, personality, demeanor, skill, everything. She's hot, she cooks, she fights, she's well mannered, she's genteel (yet fierce), she's smart, she's submissive yet (independent). She is a caricature of perfection, but somehow its not overwhelming or off-putting, likely because it all feels balanced.
And yeah, the anime aired in like 2011. I urge you to give it a rewatch if you're game. Sure there's fanservice, but the action and setting are also a lot of fun.

I've got those books too. I feel with most manga when they include color pages it's a nice bonus but whatever not really necessary, with HotD though the color makes the great art even better and really feels like that is the way the series was meant to be experienced.
