Homura surprisingly was the weakest character, we know nothing about the circumstances that led her to become a self-loathing piece of shit in the time she spent as moemura.

Also Sayaka's parents don't seem to exist even though there is no reason for them to be absent, so her situation is really hard to believe.

I'd say it's a bit too flawed to be a true master piece, but it's certainly an amazing anime if you watch strictly the movies.
