Yeah, I remember it being really popular at the time, but honestly the show is kinda shitty after a few episodes, and the manga is pretty crappy too. Once the shock value wears off, it's a rather ho-hum gag comedy/genre parody show.

Throw in another vote for Ecchi/"fanservice" series.

You have the budget and runtime of actually decent shows, and you have the ability to do near-pornographic content and it all ends up with the subtly and depth of a brick to the face. Would it kill to have an ecchi show where there's plenty of nudity and stuff going on, but the actual plot itself doesn't revolve around it?

Seinen or harem where the romance plot that's thrown in doesn't develop further than "muh-handholding" and constant kiss-scene interruptions.

I was very happy with Eureka: Seven's plot development. Just when I started to get bored of the current emo-trip, it switches gears.

Their son leaves something to be desired on, though. It's clear he got their parents Earth-crust thick skull.
