Also, my problem is that clearly nobody agreed with it, but nobody did anything, which made it an especially weak finale. There's no arc to these characters, there's nothing. They exist just to have their single quirk and contribute nothing to Kobayashi and Tohru's story. The entire idea behind the anime is that a family can be whatever the fuck they want, but I guess not because we definitely shouldn't interfere with these family affairs when it involves destroying our ideas of what a family is.

They didn't really. Except for the valentines chapter, the "skipped"chapters all come after the content they adapted. Basically the designated a cutoff point and shuffled around the order of chapters within that selection to introduce a couple characters earlier give a slightly better ending point (Going strictly by chapter order the last episode would have been Elma's introduction and office lady chapters).

And overall Iruru has the longest arc and probably would not make a good ending point. She kind of comes out of nowhere in the manga to battle and then across a couple chapters afterwards is developed with a couple stand alone chapters in between.

Ending with Tooru's dad makes for a better overall story arc tying into the theme of family the series has throughout and finishing off Tooru's obvious issues with her own family that were brought up previously.

This last stretch of the show was somewhat weak. Jokes were getting stale and the themes, redundant. Last episode was rushed and unnecessary. The apparent take away from the show is 'live the moment', and 'make your own decisions' I guess? But the finale did very little to teach us this, aside from being somewhat literal and uncreative about it, they never delved any deeper. And what was up with the weak resolution? The dad getting a generic speech by Kobayashi was all that was needed to solve this awful conflict?

Really disappointed in Kyoani this time. Decent show that could've been great with some talent in the series composition and screen play departments.

Honestly, if I ever get married (I won't), I want my wife to be like Kobayashi.

I watched this in bursts every few weeks, was fun for a while but dropped off. The final episode was easily the worst, the action was both bad and unnecessary. The concept wasn't the strongest in the first place when you have a character that can do practically anything, but not much happens. The moral that they end on always seems so stupid. It was really bad when Kobayashi shrugged off conflict in the other world because it's normal there, as if there isn't any in this world because it's not happening in front of her.

And I'm pretty tired of deadpan lolis. Sure, Kanna's design is cute, but all she does is eat and cry. She had a great singing part in the ending, it's a shame you don't get to hear it in the actual show. With Saikawa, there was a lot of missed potential. I like her look a lot better, but she was stuck doing the exact same gag until her last moments. The kid in their class mentioned her acting like a queen, or not getting along with others. We see that for a second before it gets shoved aside. There was really so much more they could have done with the characters. The opening and ending were nice and catchy, and basically all I will remember aside from the recycled jokes.
