It used to be that anime would have it's own ending because it understood the importance of telling a complete story even if they had to go off book.

If you make people fans by creating a proper show then they'll want to become fans of the source material that you're trying to sell and you can make some money off the anime itself. Blue balling the viewer doesn't make them fans, it doesn't make them want to read your books it just pisses them off and all you did was make an expensive commercial

I read the manga upto a certain point 3 years ago. I was just happy to see Aki animated.
I'm glad they showed some of the softer sides of her character.
