Yeah, it's sorta strange that the situation with her father didn't really go anywhere other than conveniently removing her from the cast so that new characters could be brought in.

Her return made for a great scene though.

Shirobako had fantastic threads here on /a/ and that probably added to the enjoyment for me. It was also very interesting to read reactions from the actual people in the industry on twitter when new episodes aired.

Also Fatalpulse/Asanagi had an autistic meltdown on twitter when Hiraoka got introduced and the anime implied that he knew Yano from the past. Asanagi couldn't stand the thought that Yano might not be pure. The irony was hilarious.

The first episodes are hard to get into because of the high amount of named characters. If you just skip a few episodes you will still not have learned the names and this will make it hard to enjoy the show.

Just force yourself through the first 6 episodes - they are essential for understanding the rest of the series. I think one of the reasons the first 6 episodes lack engagement is because they do a monumental amount of worldbuilding. Once that is all in place, things start moving at a brisk pace and don't really slow down until episode 24.

I gotta commend them on how they handled that. Having the names hover beside them for more than just the first introduction really helped solidify in my mind the name of each character and their role.

Reminder that if you can't understand what people hate about Tarou, you're probably a Tarou. I don't think it's right to simply write those kinds of people off and pretend they don't exist since it's a given you're going to run into individuals with his personality type whether you're a student, pursuing a career, or NEETing it up on /a/, so even if you can never manage to like them, you might as well learn to get along (which I guess is why I've yet to filter any tripfags no matter how unpleasant I find them). Just like with Tarou, every once in a while, even the most seemingly shitty of people can manage to contribute something no one else could have.

I think there was one two many. Although I liked them all, I felt like adding both Sara and Tsubaki was a bit much. I was genuinely surprised that Sara was hired considering that Tsubaki's interview left much more of an impression. I felt at one stage that they might do something interesting with Sara's character considering she did not appear at all suited to the job at first, but no - she just adapted rather seamlessly after a few episodes.

In the first cour, sure. But in the second cour I felt like he was "quietly" getting his work done behind the scenes. There were never any problems with the episodes he was in charge of, and despite having more responsibilities this time around he never seemed to cause any problems in that regard. If he was shit at his job, surely he would have been fired by now?

Granted a lot of the scenes involving the Director were cringeworthy, but because I considered him to be a good character I was able to tolerate them because they were usually in line with the type of person he had been established to be.

Agreed, I understand their purpose from a narrative standpoint in that as kouhai characters they allow Aoi to display her growing confidence and competence as a production assistant compared to her role as the newbie in the first cour, but not having their own arcs makes them somewhat less compelling than most of the cast (although to be fair, considering how fuckhuge of an ensemble it is and how many of them actually do get considerable development, I suppose I should just be happy that they're at least likeable).

Nor do I, but as you correctly guessed, real life experience has shown me that it doesn't take malicious intent to ruin lives. Tarou's fuckups in the first cour end up getting fixed because Shirobako is an overall idealistic show, but in real life, incidents like that can easily result in companies collapsing and people beyond the individual personally responsible losing their jobs. I don't hate Tarou or people like him because I'm cognizant of the fact that they aren't actively trying to harm others, but I am extremely wary of them and I find their tendency to lack any self-awareness incredibly frustrating as it often leads to an inability to learn from mistakes (though I will applaud Tarou for seemingly managing to buck that particular trend by the second half).

I found myself uncertain about Tarou's level of self-awareness throughout the series. I too have known people like him in a professional capacity, and sometimes it's all just an act. Then of course other times they really are just a pain the ass. I could never decide which was the case with Tarou - I longed for a bit more development of his character (as was the case for me with a lot of characters in Shirobako).
