But this tell-y style of writing is common in pretty much every form of japanese entertainment media, and it's because they just generally prefer having information told to them directly, and for it to be frontloaded rather than distributed.

And there's usually not much reason for the characters to get them. It's either "I got stronger by training" or "I got stronger because I'm really emotional.
