That's not true. Char's counterattack has a flashback from the movies and not the TV show, and that makes the movies canon. And the movies are also a million times better watch , than the tv show.

I just watched the movie trilogy, and I can't say I missed anything cool from the TV show. What do we miss? Their epic search for some salt, some Zeon dudes on bikes almost taking out the Gundam, Kai being a relentless dick, everybody going mental at Ryu's funeral, and a bunch of filler episodes to sell the second-rate toy designs. Out of all of that, the Zeon soldiers nearly fragging the Gundam is the only noteworthy thing.

How they presented the overall progress of the war and White Base's role in the Federation's plan was better in the movie than it was in the TV show.
