Anyways it would be also hard to see Nozomi actually winning the prize money, when there's also Mio (if not Sayaka) on her way. And top Keijo players must really be loaded with money if Yuzuki could afford to throw so much money (and quit playing) just for her friend's sake.

Not quite. The situation on the scene with the older woman (Shibuya) was her telling Fuyuyu about someone's suicide. That person was found on the stadium bathroom when they were closing. That person strongly believed that Fuyuyu was going to win (I'm guessing that was someone who bet all their life savings on her victory and end up with nothing). Shibuya says on that day it was supposed to be a race Fuyuyu would win without trouble, against a weaker opponent and on her home place. But she lost because on a whim she wanted to give an unfinished technique a try.
Fuyuyu says that wasn't her intention. She just wanted to get her body used to a more reliable and powerful technique than what she currently have. It's because she wanted to aim higher.
Shibuya says Fuyuyu don't have to worry about it, as it's not a rare occurrence in the keijo world. But she must remember that different from last year she is now the Keijo queen. That she has people who look up to her, people who trust her power and people who will bet everything on her.

So rather than telling her to not get motivated, it's more like "you must always win, trying new things is an unnecessary risk".

That was anime original. Check back on chapters 42 and 43 of the manga, nothing is said about it with relation to the Keijo Queen.

The reason on the manga that Nozomi strongly wants top learn it is because she noticed it was a technique she could use that would become a strong weapon, which she needed to not lose to the others (going back to her feelings about losing to Hanabi on the test).

Volume 15 profile on Yuzuki says she is one of the few who can fight Fuyuyu evenly, so they should be on the same level? The Keijo queen title is given to the fighter who wins one specific race. And matches are a 6 person free for all, so the stronger individual player isn't the one who always win.

And then Yuzuki herself probably has a problem too. If Fuyuyu, because of the burden of being in the top decide to throw away the fun of the sport and focus completely on winning, maybe Yuzuki does the opposite: not caring about winning and just wanting to have fun with the matches.
