From what I remember there were two techniques, one that worked off negative emotions and Ramna managed to make a new version that worked on self confidence and pride, Vegeta would work much better with the second.

Ranma's attack that was based off of overconfidence still wasn't as powerful. The perfected shishi hokodan was one of the most powerful attacks in the series. Even if the peaks of Vegeta's overconfidence are higher than the depths of his butt frustration are low, the shishi hokodan has really insane returns.
