The thing about Puyo is that he got greenlit for an official spin-off.

It was funny and nice that he made Yuki into a PSP gamer in Haruhi-chan but it worked because it was made for laughs.

In Yuki-chan it's an aggregious change in attributes. Plus at least on Haruhi-chan Yuki was still pretty much emotionless and was a smarty-pants that tried to get her way through guile. In Yuki-chan she was transformed to a Taaahhhkki.
