It's just anime guys

Wasn't a generic ass heroes defeat the big spooky demon king like most people were expecting, which was fine. Problem was that the whole mystery whodunnit it went for wasn't that great either.

Some of the action sequences were interestingly choreographed atleast, the protag using trickery, poisons and at one point a mirror to outmaneuver stronger characters in battle was entertaining. The protag himself was basically Batman and the main girl was cute too and I can see people getting invested in it for them, they were likeable enough main characters.

It was translated up to about halfway through volume 5, but it all got taken down when Yen Press licensed it.
There's 3 main leaders of the demons, with Bunny working with one, a second who bred specific demons until one was able to fuck a human and give birth to Fremy, who he then groomed into a killing machine and sent against possible braves to ensure the braves he wanted became braves.
He also brainwashed Adlet into having a subconscious compulsion to protect and love Fremy, and used the Saint of the Flower who he had locked in a temple to give Adlet a fake crest. Fremy was a time bomb and Adlet was the guard dog, but they ended up killing that leader which undid his brainwashing, and he told Adlet with his last breaths that Fremy was the one who killed Adlet's sister. Adlet went from "muh Fremy" to "get the fuck away from me you whore".
The leader Bunny is allied with convinced her that he wants to save both demons and humans and have them coexist, so Bunny does evil shit because she thinks she's doing good. She also loses an arm later on.

The LN hasn't ended, I believe, but the most recent volume was volume 6 and it came out almost 2 years ago now. Last I heard, the author was depressed that the anime bombed.

He's not a villain, but the Gunpowder Wizard is partners with the one that brainwashed him.
Who is or isn't a villain is kind of ambiguous. The Majin isn't sentient and it's 3 generals have very mixed feelings about how to handle it have a lot of infighting.
Also, the Flower Wizard who sealed the Majin initially and who hand out the crests isn't dead.

I shit you fucking not though, all 5 volumes have separate contrived stories about rooting out traitors.

- Smart protagonist so is hard to self-insert.

- A fixed lover who is not the main girl (rabbit girl) but instead a serious girl who appears in late chapters, something fucking original as all harem animu works the same way, it was a nice change.

It was the best show that season.
But sadly it wasn't designed for the market. The viewers had to like the original premise of adventure-with-main-girl so that they don't drop it , and then they had to still like it when the show completely switched gears.
They should have made it clear what this was from the beginning.

Wow that was so hard. Hell, even the lesser shows like Charlotte, Dandelion and Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa were way more entertaining than this shit.
Honestly it was bad for a mystery show. Good mystery stories have a good mystery, which is still solvable by the audience by means of clues hidden throughout the story. You can't just have a main character produce a bogus ass-pulled theory based on absolutely nothing and speculation rather than concrete evidence on how he got framed for everything.
By the way did I mention he was the strongest human in the world, because I don't think he said that often enough.

vol 2 is simply very formulaic and the ending somewhat "invaldates" the content. Meaning, you read the damn thing knowing how it will pan out and when it concludes you just think "she coulda just been upfront from the start" and no amount of "well they had no reason to believe in her so the evnts were necessary" washes the taste away.
I am genuinly salty about book 4 and how poorly depicted the main dude's struggle was. It was such an inherently fascinating situation to find oneself in but never really got fleshed out beyond the intrigue inherent to the situation. The concept of the scenario carried the bland cursory execution.
