I definitely believe that Nichijou was the best thing Kyoani ever animated because to the absurdist comedy mixed with maximum comfy. However, I don't really try to put it in competition with other Kyoani shows, even though I do think too many people overhype recent kyoani shows just because of the studio alone. I would say that Nichijou is the last boldest risk that kyoani did to adapt Keiichi Arawi's manga in a non-linear, dynamic style that is highly clean in animation and delivery of different variants of jokes. I suppose they are not bold enough to take these risks anymore with the current trend of their releases, but I'll fondly remember them for Nichijou as their magnum opus to their collection.

I actually traveled to see KnK. Went to Scotland back when and I rewatched it when it came to London again. It's going to be a treat for you when you get to watch it.
As for Tamako the character of Tamako and Midori resonated really well with me. And the storyboarding and framing work in that franchise is the best KyoAni has ever done. Even better than Keion or Haruhi movies.

Kyoani still placed a lot of effort and thought into the direction that Nichijou took, with the adaptation from manga-to-anime being one of the best I've seen. Not only do you have the reality-defying dramatic moments of the highschool team mixed with the science-crazy comfiness of the Shinonome household after a good half of establishing both, but you also get a mix of Helvetica Standard clips and original skits to add more content and humor for the absurdist. Kyoani went a long way to craft a lot of substance into Nichijou while keeping up with an expressive style, and it really pays off in showing off a wonderful viewing experience.

I'm not asking for Nichijou to be more recognized than it already is, but I do hope people try to understand it wasn't soulless in any sense.

It's the formula that made K-On so massively popular, though the characters in Tamako didn't mesh as well as the K-Ons did. I enjoy Love Story as much as the next guy (I've seen it five times), but I just don't know why it's held in such high regard by some. Like a cult fanbase thing. The point is that Tamako Love Story isn't really about the love story, it's about Tamako getting over her mother's death. Mochizou is essentially a plot device to kick off Tamako's development.

That's a pretty weird reading of the movie, doesn't seem correct. Her mom's death is a lot more a plot device to get with Mochi than the other way around. Her mother's absence is understated, and only touched on in the movie when its needed to advance the story. Both the death and the romance tie in to the themes of change, growing up etc. but like, "it's not about the love story", for real?

The presence of Tamako's conflicting feelings and her mother's death is much more than Mochi confessing to Tamako. The most important scene in the movie, Tamako's morning walk through the market, has literally NOTHING to do with Mochi. It's entirely about how things are changing and she's terrified, but then she learns that some things change, yet others don't such as the normal morning rush to open the stores. Tamako's confession itself is her propelling the change rather than trying to stop it like she's always done, and that's why it's so significant.
The goal of the movie was Tamako's development, not the love story, hence "it's not about the love story".
