The original Ace is very mediocre, especially by today's standards. Ryozaki is a cunt almost the entire time, Hiromi swings between confident and "muh motivation, i quit tennis" every other episode and never grows until the very last few episodes, and the animation is subpar.

That's not saying much considering Otowa is the only one who actually gets significant development. Ryozaki manages to become less of a cunt, but she still has the "reeee i'm the queen of tennis you better quit" attitude until she gets knocked down a peg near the end.

I watched it once and I`ll never watch it again. It was interesting, but not very good. I don`t mind the minimal animation of this old series, but the lack of any depth of personality pains me. Halfway through, the story starts to drag since I don`t really like any of the characters. Hiromi is such a boring main. She ends up exactly what /a/non has said>>155251718 I much prefer Oniisama e. Better characters, better story, better drama.

I`ll definitely rewatch Gunbuster again and again because it is compact, exciting, and entertaining. While Noriko isn`t the most interesting character, there are so many unforgettable people around her.
