Are there any hidden gems in Japan that isnt known due to lack of subtitles?
>>155199003
I found this relly cool series, but's ti's kinda weird, it's called Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
>>155199056
Tell me more about it, anon. What makes it special?
Made in Abyss was in untranslated hell up until a week ago when a thread finally attracted attention.
It's pretty good if you like adventure and exploration.

>yfw you can't truly know what imouto is.
>>155199003
Yes, in fact there's a lot of them.
A well known example is the series Gunbuster is based on. Hugely popular in Japan yet it's not translated at all.
Do you know who this guy is and why his works matter? Of course you don't.
Ever hear of Osu!! Karate Bu? Didn't think so.

You mean Aim for the Ace? Pretty sure at least the first season of the anime has an English sub floating around, not sure about the manga or the rest of the anime though.
is hatarakanai futari a hidden gem? i'd kill for the rest of the translations

It's still there. Translations have stopped.
>>155199003
Don't know if they are gems but I'd be willing to suck a lot of dick to get Ai Shite Knight, Stop!! Hibari-kun! and Heart Cocktail fully subbed.
Also scans for Eve no Musukotachi.
>>155203597
Nevermind, there are subs for Ai Shite Knight. I guess I mistook it for some other show.
Has there ever been anime lost to time? Something where the information about it are just some stills, concept art and heresay?
>>155199056
Sounds gay, no wonder nobody cares about it
The non-subtitled Ishidate Koutarou shows. I love them all.
>>155200684
I'm about 30 episodes inand have been for a year or so. Really fun stuff.

Evangelion ANIMA is better than the original NGE, its two final episodes, EOE and the Rebuild movies, yet it doesn't have a single chapter translated.

Related to this topic, what are some anime that are really great, but have extremely shitty subs to the point where it hinders people's ability to enjoy it if they don't know japanese?
>>155206463
Not an anime, but Part 5 of the JoJo manga has been in that state for a VERY long time, and only just recently have people started to give it a proper translation, they're like halfway finished it.

>>155203696
A recent example would be the JJBA Phantom Blood movie. Will most likely never be released in any form, the only ones who will ever see the whole thing are the people that saw it in theaters. iirc there's like 15 mins of footage on YouTube, but no audio.

I for one am interested. I'd love to watch Dororon Enma-kun, as an example, but only a few episodes are translated and I don't trust my understanding of moon enough to watch it raw.
Fuck, I don't even know if there ARE raws floating around out there. The person who half assed subbed it seemed to have gotten the episodes from a personal source.
>>155203696
Maze's movie.
>>155208909
That sounds odd. PriPara is really popular so why wouldn't it get a home release? Have you investigated this at all?
The dude who made Sundome and Ibitsu also made 3 other series that are not translated yet .

>>155199003
I wanna watch this shit so badly, got damn.
;_;
Most of the stuff gets subbed nowadays, and that's also true for classics. When I started posting on /a/, Legend of Galactic Heroes was still getting subbed and the only way to watch the original Gundam was the movies.
Kids starting with anime have it easy, most of the good stuff is already subbed and they get BD remasters when you had to find LD rips with glorious HK subs before.
There's a bunch of cases where finding subs can be tricky, to say the least.
First, very old shows. Classics or not, it doesn't matter. There's way too little interest for that kind of material and it requires ton of work (those shows often have a shitload of episodes). Iconic anime like Astro Boy, Tetsujin 28,... You won't get to see them with subs in your lifetime. Something like Dr Slump is still suubbed at snail pace despite the popularity of Dragon Ball.
Second case, if you're into niche stuff (80's mecha shows or mahou shoujo for exemple), you're bound to find yourself out of luck at some point.
Finally, OVAs and specials can be hard to find if you're a completionist and want to see all the material. It's especially true now that fansubs died and we've got to rely on crunchyshit. Regular episodes are simulcasted alright, but you'll only get translation for the bonus material if it gets dedicated fans to do the job.
>>155212790
>and that's also true for classics
Then why hasn't more classic Shin Chan been subbed?
Also pic related, no subs at all.
Same with a ton of classic maho shoujo from the 70s.
>>155212914
Have you not read the second part of the post.
And sadly, I don't see Maruko-chan getting subs. Way too much episodes. Same for Shin Chan.
sports animes
seem to be only popular in Japan and south america
Planetarian: Hoshi no Hito (the movie, the anime season is called Chiisana no Yume). I've only seen 720p raw versions online.I know a bit of moon so I was capable to understand 1/3rd of the movie.
>>155213165
mahou shoujo isn't niche?
>>155213257
Pff, I've seen a dub of it.
>>155203696
I fear that Nagano will take Gothicmade with him to his grave
>>155213288
It is niche.
Onlyreal nerds watch this and giant robots, most people stick to Naruto, Cowboy Bebop or K-On.
Especially if you're anglophone. I'm French so I can buy just buy a Magical Emi DVD box set, but finding english subs is impossible.
I really wish Circuit Wolf was translated
>>155213488

>>155213404

>>155199003
I've never found the subs for this, only the dubbed versions in various languages.
While pretty much anyone who's vaguely savvy in animu these days still knows about it, Guyver recently sorta hit that boundary. Up to about the early 10s, Guyver was a fairly popular name with lots of intent to get MORE of it out there.
Then people just sort of forgot, the fanbase never really grew, and the only group translating it require you to buy every volume you want scanlated, which can be anywhere from difficult to almost impossible for some volumes.
As a result, it's sorta just floundering, forgotten and untranslated.
Shame too, the plot's gone fucking crazy in it.
Yo, I just want the fucking Patlabor manga to get a full scanlation, along with Birdy.
Is that so much to ask for?
>>155203696

>>155214010
>Patlabor manga
Some guys picked it up recently: http://tilde.town/~meguriai/40ms.html
I hope it gets completed.
>>155213288
Any mahou shojo that came out before, oh, I'd say probably 95' is definitely niche. Like the other anon said, only real fans of the genre are going to seek it out because unless its Sailor Moon or Card Captor Sakura, the series is too 'dated' for the majority of anime watchers.

Golgo 13 is the oldest manga still in publication, originally started in 1968.

>Space Alien Pipi (1965, Japan Tele-Cartoons)

Patarillo is a fucking masterpiece. It started getting subs a couple years back but there's less than 20 subbed out of 49 iirc.
The manga has been on going for 38 years.
>>155203696
>Big X (1964, TMS Entertainment)
59 black and white episodes were made, but only episodes 1, 11, and 40-59 are known to survive.
>>155203696
>Doraemon (1973, Nippon TV Doga)
Of the 26 episodes made, barely half are known to exist. Episode 4 exist in a soundless workprint format. Episodes 5-A, 10-B, 12-B, 18, and 20 through 26 all survive in entirety

There's probably a metric fuckload of gold in untranslated manga. If you're an EOP like me then your only window into that kind of stuff is Hox/other random translators just picking up and translating whatever obscure stuff they happened to enjoy that month.
>>155208302

>>155212790
>Finally, OVAs and specials can be hard to find if you're a completionist and want to see all the material.
Especially if they're one-offs that aren't related to anything else. I remember watching California Crisis and imagining just how many other weird little OVAs like it will never get subbed.
>>155215575
>>155212790
Still waiting for this to get subs
Worrying it will never happen
>>155215575
There's more chance to see weird shit like California Crisis or Dragon's Heaven translated than generic and forgotten stuff I think.
I haven't checked up on it in a while, but I think there are only three episodes of the original 60s osomatsu-kun in english.
I know the 80s version is entirely dubbed in portugese because it was huge in brazil. English fansubbers are making their way through the first season of that aswell. It's more likely it'll get a complete version because it has higher quality rips than the original series.
I am having a really hard time in finding this manga about the birth of the rotary engine.

Sazaesan, the long time highest rating Japanese anime?
Stop ! Hibari-kun
I heard there was one generic magical girls show, where main heroine was run over by the bus and she died in the near the end of the show, never translated. Never watched, but it's already better then Madoka.
>>155216096
60s Osomatsu doesn't even have full raw rips (I cobbled up a bunch from youtube), plus near the end of the run there's episodes with B parts that are reruns which makes searching confusing. Which is sad, because I think it's extremely funny.
Also Gamba subs discontinued because Doublas had a toe surgery or whatever.
>>155219077
Gamba was depressing as fuck
>>155205855
Why are they all about yankees and deliquents?
>>155203696
There's a lot of series that were only ever released on laserdisc and many of the discs rotted away.
>>155218717
Yes, Minky Momo has been mentioned multiple times. I consider them about equal. Minky Momo had higher highs, but Madoka has better overall characterisation and tighter writing.
>>155219469
What masterpieces have been lost? this is a travesty.
>>155219292

>>155199003
Haikaijuu is ignored by English tranlastors for some reason, is the best monster horror manga right now.
Destro 246 only has like 5 chapters scanlated, and the guy doing it gave up years ago. Jormungand was pretty popular but I guess Destro was too niche.

Not anime but any manga that was printed before the 60's (kashion, etc) is pretty much lost. It might show up on Mandarake for $1000 each sometimes. The Diet Library scanned a few books and uploaded them to the public domain.
>>155224500
