As for myself, I supported Light from the get go, so it didn't really bother me who was trying to take him down. Compared to him, L didn't leave that much of an impression on me. Not that he isn't an incrediblr character, but he just can't compete.

If anything, Near was more interesting because unlike L he really hated Kira's guts.
