Nui had a devoted fanbase back when it aired but she also had a massive hatebase that shit on her as much as possible. Nui as a character was executed perfectly because she lived up to her phrase of love and hate being two sides of the same coin.

I really wish she had starscreamed at the end and been the final boss. She was a far more interesting character than Ragyo. The little hints of her depth sprinkled throughout her appearances made for some interesting discussions.

Even without going into the technical aspects of the show and the story, KLK is about beating up magical clothes. TTGL is about the best aspects of humanity. It's not just big in the sense of robots getting bigger but in the dilemmas and the emotional growth of Simon. Unlike KLK, TTGL isn't ultimately meaningless.

I didn't see a meaning in the clothes things. Yeah, the clothes were drills in TTGL. Except when they talked about drills, it was to talk about humanity's will to survive, improve, keep going further and further, and how it could be dangerously reckless if not controlled. In KLK, the clothes connection to humanity were something along the lines of "we have a close relationship i'm wearing you you're wearing me" or something like that. What's the point?

I'm a big Gainax and thus Trigger fan, but I have to admit a lot of KLK was kind of unmemorable to me. If you asked me, I would have trouble even recalling half of what happened in the show. I think this is a problem with Imashi's directing sometimes, it can be so frenetic, a lot of it just becomes noise besides some stand out moments.

I much preferred Gurren Lagann. When they went into space it got annoyingly repetitive, but the rest of it was so good it kinda made up for it. Whereas a lot of KLK, as I said, it was unmemorable.

The design work was great though, and the music.

I guess they could have? Plot didn't want that to happen because then there'd have been no conflict.
Still, it's not inconsistent. The Antispirals decided that the Spirals on Earth became too dangerous after hitting one million. Or more accurately, their automatic system activated. Earth Spirals defeated the systems and Antispirals were forced to step in because Spirals wouldn't stop and went to attack their HQ. At this point, an agreement was out of question.

Accepting the loss of the one they went out to save is clearly a statement that Spiral power won't be abused.
You can interpret easily what abuse of Spiral power constitutes, anyway. Basically uncontrolled growth coupled with selfishness, something you can see in the real world too, which is the point of this symbolism. You don't have to give it strict rules, it's a symbol. Accepting the rightful losses means overcoming it.

Nobody ever points out how both Nui and Mako have the same bunny motif on a lot of their clothes and accessories (aside from the stupid Nui killed Mako and took her place theorists), which is obviously intentional.
