I don't particularly like it either. I don't like the design of some of the characters. I don't like what they've done with Shinji/Kowaru. I don't like what they've done with Mari. I don't like the way it panders to figurefags. I don't like time skips. I'm saying that it's only merit is that it's at least original content, unlike the previous rebuilds. The final act was the only thing I really enjoyed, especially once Kowaru died.

Say what you want about Rebuild, but one thing it was good for is it gave Eva a bigger audience. Without it I doubt Evangelion would be the household name it is in Japan it's unlikely we'd have near daily threads on it. Most likely it would be a show like Utena, highly regarded but not really mainstream. Also we wouldn't have all the merch or art we have today.

Rebuild has only made the fanbase chaotic, and grown nothing. The only difference is that it's more aggressive in terms of merchandise, but it still sells less per item than in the 90's despite the larger market. Rebuild is an ugly failure compared to the original.
