Because of the success of yesterday's thread about anime cancellations >>155064386 I decided to use my autist powers and recap all the animes suggested in the thread into one pastebin with the proper sources and text (When possible).

There also go with a few tags in those with doubts or special attention

>(REASONABLE DOUBT)
Those not full proved even with different explanations provided
>(CANCELLED & REBIRTH)
Anime who got partly/full cancelled and get back soon again with required changes to air
>(BLU-RAY/DVD RELEASE)
Anime with blu-ray/dvd release problems and/or canned
>(LEGAL ISSUES)
Problems with the original authors or proper legal issues
>(US PROBLEMS)
Problems with the US version of the anime

If you know more cancelled anime not featured here or futher explanations about them (Mostly in those without links), could be appreciated to make a new pastebin. I couldn't say before my gratitute for yesterday thread so I say it now, it was a good thread, thanks.

Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa was planned to be 2 cour. But the negative reception of the character looks made it to half. That's why they kept pushing Aizawa (the manga's popular character) by making her appear earlier and most of the time.

Sci-if Harry was licensed by Super Techno Arts and they sat on the distribution rights for years without releasing anything (but the series was garbage so nothing of value was lost). The original Neon Genesis and the End of Evangelion were not technically cancelled but nobody owns the rights to them for an english dub, and the DVD's went out of print so long ago.

It sucks because that blu ray box set in Japan is not only three hundred fucking dollars, but it also doesn't have english subtitles as an option. Probably on purpose.

Blame "Tale of Genji," which is required riding in Japan and considered by most people in Japan to be one of the greatest works of literature. (To be fair, it is one of the greatest novels never written.)

In the story, there is a subplot where Genji, a prince of the imperial court is fascinated by Murasaki, the daughter of the woman he loved. He raises her when she was ten, then when she comes of age, he marries her.

This is why it is unfortunately something that is culturally acceptable, because a book written 1000 years ago has it as a part of its story.

While good as a stand alone product, the Baccano anime made a number of changes to the source material. A good chunk of characters got cut out entirely which would make it impossible for the anime to continue the story.

This pissed off fans of the LNs (they were pretty popular) and everyone else just got alienated due to the 1930s american setting.

Durarara on the other hand took less liberties with the source material and hit a niche with fujoshi.

This has never been confirmed, it's purely speculation on the part of fans. Nobody from Kyoani or Kadokawa has ever made a statement on it.

Hell a good chunk of the stuff in this thread is just speculation. Also shows not getting second seasons due to poor sales isn't cancellation.

That's nice. Would have liked to see it animated. I don't know what the general consensus of the series was when it was airing since I didn't pick it up two years after it aired., but I really liked it. The setting was unique and the characters were fun.
>>
Daily life of high school boy's second season never came to fruition because the square-enix doesn't want one. The manga also ended.
>>
>>155148162
The only thing that sticks out to me in the pastebin is Lucky Star and Sayanara Zetsubou Sensei.

A director being fired is not a show being cancelled, it happened during the shows production and Lucky Star wasn't taken off the air or anything like that. It's just a case of one man directing the first four episodes, and then the rest being taken by someone else.

Sayanara Zetsubou Sensei wasn't "cancelled" either, all of its seasons aired and concluded as planned. Shaft stated that they would like to do another season, but couldn't afford it. I don't think this counts as "cancellation" since another season was never planned to be produced, it's just a case of "it'd be nice if we could".

I think we need to define cancellation as "Shows that got pulled mid-way through their allotted run, announced seasons being scrapped/becoming vaporware, or home media releases not happening". Otherwise we'll have to define shows like K-On or Lucky Star as "cancelled" since they ended long before their manga counterparts did (and hell the Lucky Star manga is still ongoing).

Very few anime series could justify more than two seasons. You are used to American' habit of shows lasting more than 3 years, but that isn't how it works in Japan. You really need a mega hit to have multiple anime series.
>>

>you won't really see any 1-cour shows getting canned because they're mostly completed by the time the first few episodes air.

I decided to add new Tag clarifications:

>(REASONABLE DOUBT)
Those not fully proved, even with different explanations provided, but hinted due verifiable information on the Internet which can suggest that (Cancelled cours or less episodes than on a regular cour) aka pure gossip
>(CANCELLED & REBIRTH)
Anime who got partly/full cancelled and get back soon again with required changes to air

OP here, I'll take out SZS because it's based only in post speculation, but Lucky Star enters in the grade of substantial changes to redone a show.

Lucky Star was just not pulled out in time like other animes like Ranma, Cowboy Bebop, Mimki Momo, but the change was sustantial in the approach and quality of the show. So it stays.

It's true tho that I'm not including only pure cancellations but because of the prolific information in both threads I decided to include them (The US DVD release of an anime is not the cancelation of it because it's the Japan market that counts but still a valuable information related to it, as same as backed US cours instead of Japan doing it)

There is also that Minky Momo legend that it got canceled because toy companies stopped supporting the show and that is why Momo is hit by a toy truck and killed in the last episode.

Didn't decide to link the lawsuit link because it was directed to the manga issue. I also suppose anime got canned when that happend but not disclosure about it so it just appears as announced but never made (Again, sure because of that, but not official announce or support link who says that)

>>155156452
Minky Momo was alredy listed. People think it was the last episode but actually it wasn't. She reborns as the real baby of her former foster parents and then in her baby dreams she works again as Minky Momo against villians, when the last episode is about the new baby Minky Momo needing the tears of all the people who believe in her to defeat the last villian if I recall. I think was in the article posted in the pastebin too.

These shorts were not really intended to become longer series, but at least Daisuke Nakayama’s Global Astroliner felt more of a pilot. It seems the series itself is a bigger story that Nakayama has been working on for awhile, and it has been going through quite a bit of changes (unless they are completely different works, which I’d see that to be more of a plausible explanation).

For some reason during the 00s, I never encountered a series that was obviously canned with no ending and imagined Japan was a magical land where creative vision was always followed through no matter what the ratings or response to the series. >Gunbuster was cut down I think
There was a long running joke regarding the last episode being in black & white, ("They couldn't afford to color it!") while in actuality maintaining contrast and detail in B&W was more expensive.

There may have been production issues but they weren't related to budget or number of releases.

Why are you even bothering collecting any of this? Most of it is mindless gossip with no proof, some of which is just blatant bullshit that even the slightest bit of research or common sense disproves.

Yes, and?

to be clear, you're not asking for the anime that was discontiuned after after a season ending even if the story was not finished?

Deadman Wonderland, Claymore, Btooom! and Devil is a Part-timer all comes to mind but they all had their seasons finale before getting discontiuned.

I'd argue Cyborg 009 to a degree. the first 26 episode anime was canceled by the writers after a dispute over 2 episodes referencing the Hiroshima & Nagasaki bombings, so they wrapped it up after complaints about it, the 2 episodes were also banned from television for a few decades.

>Unfortunately, while the Cyborg 009 franchise found success overseas in European countries and in Latin America, each attempt to bring it to the USA was not as successful: The Legend of the Super Galaxy received an obscure dub in 1988 and was relegated to the bargain bins in either its full version or a 92-minute edited copy; the Cyborg Soldier version of the series premiered on Cartoon Network in 2003, but was eventually pulled from the Toonami block, put off to their late-night Adult Swim block, and did not even get the chance to finish its entire run; as far as the manga goes, only volumes 1-10 were released by Tokyopop (in a translation of iffy quality) and they sat on the license until it expired; and while Archaia’s graphic novel attempted to re-ignite interest in the series, a change-over in management at Ishimori Productions has seemingly put a hold on any plans for a sequel or further development of the reboot.

there's also the 2001-3 series (51 episodes), over half of the series is missing.

Volumes 11-36 is untranslated and I haven't seen a reprint, volumes 1-10 was (somewhat badly) translated by tokyopop before they went under

Also due to the tsunami back in '11 the Ishinomori was closed down for 2 years, apparently lots of things were damaged (Not just Cyborg 009 stuff, Kamen Rider as well)

That's all I got atm.

Those got a proper ending (even with filler because of adaptation) and the reasonable amount of episodes per cour.

If there were news about 2nd season being cancelled or the anime being rushed to end earlier would fit the chart here.

If they were just contract to 1-2 cours and nothing else is just a regular anime which featured a filler ending due the source material still on going at the time.
