How do you choose which anime to pick up each season?

I look at the thumbnail and then read the description on livechart/anicharts. If there's anything I like, I try the first 1-3 episodes and then decide to drop it or continue. Also during the Season /a/ can be an indicator on what's worth looking at (not what's actually good).

I just pick whatever interests me, but if I'm iffy on something I'll lurk some threads here. Even if a show seems bad there is a chance it'll be fun to watch and shitpost about it with /a/.

I start with the really anticipated ones, maybe due to the source material or because a famous writer/director is working on it. After I'm caught up on the must-see ones, I start working my way through the rest one by one according to their description and my mood. I usually finish the SoLs and moe first. I try not to drop anything if it's not horrendous.

If the description/first minute long PV doesn't immediately repel me I'll give the first three episodes a try, plus anything that looks like its shitposting materials (i.e Re:CREATORS.)

Whatever looks good or interesting, I watch it. Give it 4-5 episodes before deciding whether or not I drop it. There are about 32 shows that I'm interested in watching spring season so I'll be a busy fuck.

Which is perfectly fine, the idea isn't to actually follow every single series. Just check them out and see if its interesting. I'll often drop shows I don't like the first episode of and only take a second look if it gets significant attention.

Yeah this. Most of the time it works since the majority of each season doesn't offer anything 'new'. Sometimes /a/ won't shut up about certain shows so I look into those but it doesn't take much reading to find out why it's popular.

Look up all the previews etc and whatever gets me interested I pick up first. Then after that I monitor various /a/ for anything I might have missed or want a second look at and if they interest me then I pick mire up. For the most part it is a gut feeling.

The show has a weird style though, it takes time to adjust to. It's similar to Windy Tales in that respect, which was another show I would have missed if I selected on visual appeal.

Start of season - Watch the first episode of any shows with a unique look or premise
3-4 weeks in - See if anyone is watching the ones that initially looked like generic garbage and check the m out if they're getting praise

Go to /a/ and find which one I can post baits and get the most replies.

Generally I try to avoid any mecha shows. I just make sure it's not mecha and watch an episode or two. If I don't like it or it is mecha I drop it. Mecha shows will be dropped.

Also when will the mecha genre finally die?

I look at the chart, eliminate shit I have no interest in like idol shows, then read the descriptions of what's remaining to give me a short list of things that caught my eye, then I look up the PV (or watch a compilation of all of them if it's available) which helps me further narrow it down.

I have 4 shows that I'm interested in for spring. from looking at the chart, I was interested in Warau Salesman, Sakura Quest, Kabukibu, and Alice to Zouroku. After watching PVs I'm interested in Warau, Sakura Quest, Sakurada Reset, and Ochouten Kazoku. Might still give Kabukibu and Alice a shot, but I'm less interested in them

Like anyone who actually cares about his entertainment I look up the screenwriter and director of every show that comes from a at least semi-capable studio and if they're both at least mediocre I'll give it a try if the synopsis picks my interest.

Then as the season progresses I check out what people on /a/ are enthusiastic about, look at gifs and whatnot, and check out the ones that look good, even if they're in genras I don't usually watch.

I usually try 10 to 15 shows but end up watching around 5 shows per season this way, but I'll watch more or less depending on whether I like what's available. I don't watch shows I don't enjoy, and drop shows frequently even in the second half of the cour.
