The characters are lovable and have personality while prancing around in silly outfits.

There's so much porn of it because the (humanoid) characters are, with one exception, girls. Also they spend their lives in a perpetual state of firefight and banter with each other, so there's a lot of potential for shippers.

the series has a lot of creative potential for derivative works such as doujinshi, music cds, mmds, fan games, etc., probably because of the setting (which focuses mostly on japanese folklore), and it's characters. As more games and other official source material are released (music cds, manga, books), there's more speculation fuel, world building and details about new and already existing characters.

Lots of people might not play the games themselves, but those also have pretty patterns (most of the time) and music.
