Kind of. Kyoani did anime original scenes and segments almost every episode, and the past two episodes were primarily anime original. They also altered some of the manga chapters and moved the order around (Like during the party chapter they removed all the Christmas elements from it and turned it from a Christmas party into a generic get party, and the beach episode they added Shota and Loca into it while making Shota's appearance in the manga earlier in order to have him in more scenes).

I think the problem is that the manga chapters are like 18 pages and a lot of the jokes are fairly "to the point". The anime stretches them out and it turns into a slice of life, but this time with monster girls!

Not always. The first half of episodes was great because they took COOL's stuff and expanded on it. However, instead of upholding that balance, they started adding more original stuff while bringing the manga content to a minimum, which is bad because without COOL's content to act as a guide, they end up just rehashing the same jokes time and time again even though those only appeared once or twice in the manga.

It's still good, but instead of stretching it out to fit their own SoL style by adding superfluous extra content and beating the dead horse, they should have kept following the manga.

What? The manga isn't worth mentioning but it doesn't have the repetitive gags. That's where the adaptation truly blunders. KyoAni clearly added the gags as the filler in between the real meat of the show: the family dynamic between Kobayashi, Tohru, and Kanna.

They realized that they didn't need any interesting plot or creative shit any more because they found their real weapon:

The issue seems more like they need to plan out episode order to end at a good point (Either Toorus dad or the fight with Iruru with how things are currently moving). Iruru was the longest part of the manga spanning like 4-5 chapters and would take a couple of episodes to do fully. Where her character arc ends doesn't make for a very impactful ending either.

Koe no Katachi was one of her best works, the passion was definitely there.
The movie just happened to release at an unlucky time, having to compete with a fucking Shinkai film, which was hyped up like crazy to add to it.
It's not hard to see why a more well known director got more recognition from the critic/award crowd.

They were both fantastic movies, with Koe no Katachi even being better in certain areas.
The fact it got so few awards in comparison to Your Name despite being a film of very similar quality is baffling and a little upsetting honestly.

What exactly did Maidragon anime adaptation improve? So far it has just been rolling in place using the manga's events in different order plus some new anime exclusive SoL that hasn't added anything meaningful, they seem to have removed the raunchier bits and jokes altogether and at this point it's unclear whether they're going to even introduce Iruru at all, or the slightly more "serious" bits with Tooru and Elma's past, the human woman who originally gave Tooru the maid idea or Tooru wondering about eventually outliving Kobayashi.

They're probably going to save Tooru's father for the last two episodes despite him originally having only short amount of screen time in the first parts of the manga and drag on that drama before ending the anime inconclusively at solving that. I'm not saying the original was some novel super serious shit, but the anime just doesn't provide the same amount of catharsis and instead seems to opt to focus entirely on "cute girls doing cute stuff, now with dragons".
