The reaction to this is one of the biggest shitshows I've ever seen.
>They couldn't have gotten Mr. ROBOT??
That actually wouldn't have been the worst casting.
Though the guy they have playing L is someone I've never seen before, for all I know he fits the roles well.
>workmates have varying opinions on this
>have no opinion because I haven't read or watched it
>get called out for watching SoL shit whenever I say this
Having a black guy is pretty fun though
lol if they don't care for the original's appearance then rami malek would have been a perfect fucking cast for L, if you've seen both mr robot and death note then you know that to be fact
For this whole time I thought it was going to be a series. You know its going to be shit when an entire series, movie or manga, is going to be stuffed into a movie. It might have had a chance if it was a series.
Calm down fag. Just like in case of Edge~, they seem to be using just the most vital parts of the story. In Netflix movie the MC seems to be pretty average guy unlike genius level Yagami. Whole movie might be focused more on him trying to get away from nigger L instead of creating a perfect world.
Has anyone seen it yet? episodes? trailer?
But most importantly, does the guy playing light give off that crazy "I think I'm god" aura/vibe? Thats almost as important as L's skin color if you ask me.
Can't have some candy ass playing light.
What's that supposed to mean? Because at least Edge of Tomorrow had people with good works behind them.
Who the fuck has even heard of half the people involved with this adaptation?
It's a movie
More of a futile angsty teenager "I AM the best, stop laughing!" sort of way. He looks like the kind of kid that'd brag about how awesome he is when he couldn't even fold his own laundry and then burst into futile cuckold tears if you accidentally bumped past him on the street. It's like the polar opposite of Light's complex, but also done very deliberately to pander to some vogue school shooter stereotype
And yet making L white would have still been less jarring than making him black. It just feels forced in todays climate and you know it.
Honestly, It wouldn't have been as bad i they made him fucking anything BUT black. white, Asian, mandarin, British(I rather like this one), mexican, Italian, Eskimo, fucking Brazilian. But NO he is black.
As we all know, the only way to diversify something is to cram as many black people as possible into it.
>i they made him fucking anything BUT black
You don't see anything wrong with what you just said?
I'm actually okay with this, maybe they'll try to do a different spin on the story than just try to adapt it straight.
Your right about this but then again, it's the United States. Black people aren't exactly a minority even if they get called that in some contexts.
Has it been done because of "muh diversity"? Yeah possibly. But it's not jarring setting-wise.
That depends on the type of the bIack guy tho
>Ie serious, "niggers are actuaIIy smart, they are ust oppressed" type
>Ie quirky, autistic, manchiId that is straight from the manga, but with things you associate it with bIack guys
at Ieast this wouId be a SOMEWHAT honest adaptation.
>pure nigger stereotype, Iisten to """"deep"""" 2pac or De Ia souI songs and smoking bIunts intead of cakes, but with street smart that aIso transIates into booksmart. With the nigger attitude eventuaIIy be reveaIed to be a ruse.
Best choice. I'II hang around on /a/ or /tv/ for the Iaugh
fine, I typed in the heat of the moment. But you can't tell me L being black has nothing to do with the trend of I guess blackwashing we've seen in modern media can you?
You can't tell me it doesn't feel forced.
>I'II hang around on /a/ or /tv/ for the Iaugh
Please stay there.
This. USA / normie audience are so fucking idiot they can onIy reIate a megaIomaniacaI attitude with a highschooI boy by making him Iook Iike a schooI shooter. Break the moId and make him Iike yer everyman Iike Raito was and nobody wouId understand anything
This is aIso the probIem with bIack L. Nobody wouId understand if they make a bIack guy acts and function Iike an autist, hence they give him the entry IeveI, hackerman inspired gear and brooding attitude. Its shit.
I'II bet my hair theres gonna be a Trump stand in and Iight wouId kiII him on TV. Thats how casuaI this adaptation gonna be
>I'II bet my hair theres gonna be a Trump stand in and Iight wouId kiII him on TV
Oh boy it's so going ot happen.
I went to see Logan, which was admittedly pretty good, but I cringed hard at the Mexico wall.
I'm not some Trump supporter, I really couldn't care less, but it was so heavyhanded, even though it was only mentioned in passing and shown like in one scene.
The guy who was behind the attack was killed on the spot, what we have there is a wounded man.
Hollywood is losing their grip on the youth who prefer Japan's entertainment so they are buying the rights to many manga and anime. Can't wait to see the inevitable Stardust Crusaders live action movie featuring Daniel Radcliffe as Jotaro and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Star Platinum.
>Hollywood is losing their grip on the youth
Open your mouth more, I don't think it can keep out with all the shit it's spreading out.
Fuck off back to /tv/ shitposters
>Daniel Radcliffe as Jotaro
>Arnold Schwarzenegger as Star Platinum
Anon, was this supposed to sound like a bad idea when you typed it?
As hilarious as that would be, Jojo is regrettably too weird.
They'll adapt stuff that has wide appeal and are/can be made to look presentable to Western Average Joe sensibilities, like GitS or Death Note.
tell me /a/, which actors would you choose for this?
Logan is nice yes. If you ignore aII the retarded entry of character coming into the scene, and how disfunctionaI how the battIefieId was in the finaI battIe, then its easiIy my GOAT movie so far.
But yeah, I ust cant feeI myseIf Iiking this adaptation. Best Death Note movie, if I have to choose, is the first nip adaptation. But even that may have been due to nostaIgia googIes.
Which is more likely
They chose the best person based on their acting abilities to be L or some kike wanted to shill niggers even harder so picked a black guy to be progressive?
Please keep (((Hollywood))) in mind.
The movie or the manga?
chose the best person based on their acting abilities to be L
And you know by doing ((( This shit))) then you are just playing into their hands.
The guy playing L has some experience playing a character like L that isn't really socially adjusted (not in quite the same was as L though) so he might have legitimately tapped into whatever they were looking for.
Translation: Hollywood is aiming at the audience it always has and I'm no longer 12.
If you're over 18 Hollywood does not give a fuck about you. This is why people have been fighting literally for years to start getting R rated movies with actual budget made again.
I don't hate him or like him but it would have been pretty good
Schwarzeneggers a little too beefy to play star platinum if you ask me. More fitting for the world.
But who's physique would be a good fit for SP?
Its not so much his race as his appearance, same with Light.
It tells you a lot about the characters instantly that one is pale, lanky, awkward, dishevelled, bags under the eyes, while the other is well proportioned, handsome, and groomed.
You aren't going to get that by casting a good looking black fella and a weeny little nerd.
They could have avoided this whole shitstorm by just adapting the premise and going with their own characters and story. Its not like the actual plot of Death Note is that great.
It's being directed by the same person who did the new Blair Witch and both V/H/S/ shitshows.
Every single one of his movies has been a piece of shit.
This will not be different.
You can convay the same kind of thing with mannerisms and costume. One dresses normally, the other covers his face up and wears a hoodie. Anime is heavily expressionist so it feels the need to beat you over the head with these things sometimes.
Does he really? Because here are some movies he was in and roles he played
>Selma-Jimmie Lee Jackson
>Straight Outta Compton-Snoop Dogg
>Snowden - Patrick Haynes
And I don't know about the other two but Snoop Dogg is socially adjusted
No it isn't, it's just another reason.
This film is being produced by Netflix which is known for many of their cultural marxist piece of shit originals such as "Dear White People". They're soon going to be pushing that cuckold Bill Nye.
Anon is lying. Adam Wingard (the director) only did one segment on each V/H/S, in the first one he did Tape 56 and in the second one he did Phase I Clinical Trials,
He also directed The Guest
But it is, they make sequels and reboots because of a thing called brand recognition. Even kids know what these things are because of constant pop media references and spinoff media.
Why do you think all the attempts to reboot a bunch of the things that never really survived being more than quotes did well? Why do you think marvel movies are currently the biggest things known to man?
It's not because "omg so geeky", it's kids.
Prime ArnoId fits the biII for The WorId as that thing is pure physicaI attacker.
Star PIatinum needs to be someone who is buff, but taII to get this Iean-ish Iook to convey SP speed and precision.
I was thinking of the character he plays in Atlanta, the guy is basically some unholy combination of drug high and high functioning autistic. He does and says really weird shit at socially akward moments and has a bit of the same don't give a fuck about other people hedonism that we see from L.
Yes, but now I'm beginning realize the implications of what I said.
Sorry was what I had in mind.
Didn't stop them from making a CGI of him younger in Terminator Genisys.
Every single thing Netflix produces has been pushing very hard for a liberal progressive agenda.
This is being produced by Netflix.
L is a nigger 2041.
You want star platinum vs the world? I got you.
>Didn't stop them from making a CGI of him younger in Terminator Genisys.
Uncanny valley and you wouldn't need actual Arnold to be there. I mean fuck might as well have Eugene Sandow as a stand.
I dont watch those movies, but if he can puII off those autism ust fine, then maybe, MAYBE, its not that bad of an L.
He stiII needs to ditch those aII bIack, Ie hackerman assasin get up. It Iooks so strong to normies watchign the traiIer the first time, but if we get to see him behind the scenes, then Im hoping for the usuaI Iong sIeeved Ioose tshirt.
John Cena is the squattest guy you can get from WWE roster. Better used a CGI roided up Cesaro if you have to use some WWE guy
>Stardust Crusaders live action movie featuring Daniel Radcliffe as Jotaro and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Star Platinum
I actually don't have a problem with L being black. They're just doing an American version of Death Note, so they're adding races you can find in the US, mainly white and black.
However, I don't get why people are complaining about the actors not being Asian. There's nothing strictly Asian about Death Note. The characters have Japanese names, and that's it. The story could take place anywhere and with any race.
(Not to mention no one's complaining about the live actions of FMA and AOT being all japanese... )
The movie it was based on was a liberal indy movie made by a self hating white man to tell the story of poor oppressed black people
they actually know nothing about
Ironically the movie came off more that reverse racism aka black culture fucked up black people more than anything white people can do since the black lead had to constantly dumb herself down to get along with her fellow black friends since they hated intelligence and attributed it to white people. When this was pointed out to the creator he threw an autistic shitfit and said people misinterpreted his message.
Because the movie is a satire, and the TV show will follow in the same suit. The main character thinks that Gremlins is about black people moving into a white neighbour, and she is a character that nobody agrees with.
>by a self hating white man
This is a white man according to you? Because this is the director, writer and producer of the movie
I have a bigger issue with Light looking like a strung out meth head than L being a nigger honestly.
I swear they better not twist Light into some coked out poorfag whose looking to bring down the system that failed him and take down the corrupt bureaucracy.
Half of Light's character revolves around the fact that he already had it all, he was bored of it, and he wanted more.
>since the USA has far more latinos than blacks?
THIS. What the fuck is wrong with american media in this regard? You think they would be mexicasting characters in mass instead of the black wash were constantly seeing.
Shit doesn't make sense. You would think there were as many mexicans as there are asians in america by the way there covered in the media.
I don't even fucking care. Just give me good acting and an interesting plot with characters who are relatable.
Just give me entertainment. You can have all the straight white asian characters and still turn in to Dragonball evolution
I think the exact percentage is around 13% or so, which yeah, isn't close to a majority but not low enough that the idea that casting a black guy in a role where race isn't essential should be as shocking as some in this thread are acting.
Isn't that movie a parody, though?
I haven't seen it, but reading the synopsis seems like the MC is the one getting shit on for being an ignorant, spoiled, and race-obsessed little shit that thinks being half black makes her half-special.
I don't want to see the movie because i know it's gonna be shit, but i must see the movie because there is the name Death Note on it. Same with Star Wars VII, Rogue One was great
Was this a parody too?
Meh. Could have been worse Still waiting to see more of chocolate L. And ya, I hope they don't make light go full edgy white kid school shooter. But I can almost see it.
and it seemed pretty action packed. I just hope they keep alot of the person to person, psychological tense moments in.
It's over, of course they'd show Light Kamisama in a bad light and make the "hero" a nigger.
Light clearly wasn't a god but he was most certainly the best human being shown in the series, not a delusional, pathetic teenage emo. That's the whole fucking point and appeal of the character, for fuck's sake.
Light is THE smooth operator.
Just take a look at how this nigger dresses. You can tell from a mile away this guy is a loser.
>all according to keikaku
TL: "keikaku" means plan
You don't know what a God complex is do you? And you are talking about Yagami Light, the guy who ended the first episode by saying he shall become God of the new world.
>A god complex is an unshakable belief characterized by consistently inflated feelings of personal ability, privilege, or infallibility.
>A person with a god complex may refuse to admit the possibility of their error or failure, even in the face of irrefutable evidence, intractable problems or difficult or impossible tasks. The person is also highly dogmatic in their views, meaning the person speaks of their personal opinions as though they are unquestionably correct. Someone with a god complex may exhibit no regard for the conventions and demands of society, and may request special consideration or privileges.
Yeah, that's a big part of what this adaptation is inevitably going to miss.
Light had a massive, world-eclipsing ego, but he was justified in thinking highly of himself. He was pretty much an extreme of over-achieving technical genius on top of being attractive and socially capable. He had everything and knew exactly how much he had.
The point was that even when you're someone like that, the lengths he went to and the decisions he made were still difficult to justify. He was the closest a person is capable of getting to someone that should decide who lives and dies, which is what made the drama interesting. There was an uncomfortable moral ambiguity to his actions being disgusting and his justification being intellectual. He thought he was infallible because he was damn close to being infallible, which made his falliblity all the more interesting.
If you strip all that away and leave him as just some angsty, insecure teenager desperate to justify his mountain of flaws and glaring lack of social aptitude with unwarranted pride, then it just becomes pathetic and morally unambiguous. It raises no interesting questions except "why do we let mentally ill losers free in society?"
>the best human being shown in the series
Did we watch the same show. Light constantly lost his shit over petty bullshit and acted bat shit insane because of his god complex. The whole reason he gets caught in the first place is because he just *had* to fight L and the police despite them having no way to track him down.
Only difference we can tell so far is that anime Light is more handsome.
>who dies at the end
I wonder if they'll even kill him off. And just what will they do with these two for that matter?
>He lives in Seattle
>L is a nigger
>funded by Netflix
>just a coincidence they picked the right man for the job XD
>>pure nigger stereotype, Iisten to """"deep"""" 2pac or De Ia souI songs and smoking bIunts intead of cakes, but with street smart that aIso transIates into booksmart. With the nigger attitude eventuaIIy be reveaIed to be a ruse.
you are thinking of a nigger version of mello, not L
No room for your gaslighting here friend, try tumblr.
That's not the point. The point is that even if you acknowledge Light has a god complex he still was an elite human being, while this guy clearly will be a total joke.
Light didn't kill criminals just for the sake of it, he didn't plan to stop, he wanted to mold a new society. He couldn't have done all that if he didn't fight L.
Light was delusional, okay. But there's a difference between a random edgy teenager and Light.
Exactly this, well put.
>good looking black guy
This is L in costume. He looks like a more realistic version of L than what the series had. Not like Death Note was supposed to be realistic, but you can't cry about L being an attractive black guy when he looks more suspicious than Light. L is still emo, race doesn't matter.
Would have been perfect if Light was from the Deep South. They could just be completely liberal with the origins of the Death Note and connect it to New Orleans mysticism or Mexican folk belief (think Dia de los Muertos).
Then, they could cast Ryuk as some shady guy that looks from someone straight from New Orleans.
The way these things go is they take a script that's already similar to the series and use it for the adaption to cut budget cost on writers. You won't see that level of creativity.
Was thinking of the guy who voodoo'd the "prince charming" in The Princess and the Frog.
Which is a shame, really. That could have given this version of Death Note some identity at least.
So what's the justification for this whiteboi to call himself "kira"?
It didnt pander to their normie city foIk anon. Are you suggesting that corporations are trying to make its audience think of the poepIe outside their upper midcIass neighbourhood ? I Iike the idea tho, Death Note can be compared to some next IeveI voodoo doII or someshit.
I can definitely see the similarities with Ryuk too.
Man I hope they keep that second episode verbatim with L getting light kill that bait prisoner then putting him on blast on live television.
That and maybe even the double "I am...justice!" yell. but that probably wouldn't translate well.
REMEMBER ME, EDDIE?
>leaving fingerprints on the dais
>leaving half your face uncovered so that malicious actors can add it to their facial recognition databases
>letting them know what height or physical race you are, let alone your skin colour
Not my L
>we KNOW that L uses a proxy in the manga
I'm pretty sure this is L, because white using a black guy a proxy would just unleash twitter and tumblr upon Netflix.
Unless he turns out to be a latino.
I'm more angry that he isn't being super secretive and cautious, I don't mind too much if he's black as long as they don't "hood" him up too much.
This showed that Hollywood anime adaptations don't work, but is old enough that people have forgotten it, and so they're trying again.
Too bad anime isn't obscure enough anymore for GitS and this Death Note series to be flops. The premises are more accessible than Dragon Ball, so even if they're not great successes they will at the very least break even.
>it isn't exactly like much anime's
No shit, and judging from the teaser it's already looking better than the Japanese movies that try too hard to be like the source material
Nah it won't be on that level EoT had A-list stars and an experienced action director
>what's wrong with casting a black guy as a super genius
Blacks have an average IQ 15 points below whites and 25 points below certain Asians. A super genius is already an incredibly unlikely/rare occurrence, a black one is a joke.
Whatever statistics say about averages, it has no relation on the occurrences of the extreme.
A super genius is so incredibly rare overall that whatever the average may be for any race, it really doesn't affect this. Also
>Light = Zac Efron
Why wasn't this shit moved to /pol/ or /trash/ yet? It doesn't even have anything to do with anime anymore, just faggots thinking they'll be heard when they're complaint about someone being black
But it's not. Japanese in Death note verse are just white caucasians with asian names. L was totally black washed though
People is complaining about this? I thought L being black was the perfect move to scare white washshing complainers. Because if they complain about light they have to complain about L as well and complaining about blacks is verboten.
I don't know, he's giving me a weird vibe. He doesn't look like the type to be a school shooter - he looks like a kid whose parents didn't give him enough attention, so he gave himself a faggy haircut to make them notice him. But on the other hand, look closer. He's either a frequent user of drugs, or has mental problems. They probably wanted to make allusions to him being a potential school shooter - but the shinigami dropped the note at the right time, and saved a school from being shot in favour of criminals.
I'm not going to watch that video and make their video viral, fuck that.
This is NOT Light. This is some drugged-out weakling who kills because he hates, not because he's desensitized to the modern world.
I don't understand. I didn't say I wanted to give them ad revenue, I said that I didn't want to give them views.
Using uBlock doesn't prevent that. I don't know where you've heard that.
Whats better than coming up with an original idea for a "thriller" or whatever the fuck you call death note?
Stealing someone another person's idea and putting your own shitty creative vision into it. This has been time and time again, and it isn't all too surprising it happened to death note. I don't really know why they needed [Jama]L though, I prefered to think of L as some super pale dude who didn't go outside much and thats easier to show on a white person or a Nip.
Goddamn. I guarantee 3/4ths didn't even watch/read it or thought Near and Mello weren't complete shit.
Jesus are you guys like old people? Imma explain this
A like on facebook doesn't mean you find enjoyment out of it. Its more of an acknowledgement. Even though like only fucking euros and old people use facebook now
My favorite part is how they made Light TURNER pudge and ugly
yep, you hitted the nail right in the head
Light was an asshole with god complex, but he was justified on why he would believed that
the nigga was top on his class, intelligent and popular suave kind of guy, Light was THE cream of the crop of the society
you know the guy has some moral standards, and fucked up ways to get shit done, but it was the careful planning, machiavelism and charm to woo people you can't help but follow on why you want to see how his antics are gonna be
>Entry-level shonenshit gets a live adaptation
Who cares, it already has two other ones.
>The Japanese character is white now.
>The British character is black now.
>he's actually Lind.L.Taylor and the real L shows up at the end of the movie after he bites the dust
>Murdered criminals are all blacks, muslims, hispanics
>Sparks a national ethnic conflict in which the public cries conspiracy and accuses the government of ordering minority genocide in prisons, inquiries are had in every branch, debates on why most criminals are minorities, is Killa a racist committing mass hate crime or simply a purveyor of extremist law and corporal punishment that just happens to target minorities, could he really solve the issue of crime when factors such as low income and poor environment will still persist, can he stop radical terrorists who don't care about their lives in the first place
Not like this shit series can think that far ahead though.
i watched the trailer, why is he stilled called kira when he's a westerner in a western setting where everyone is a native english speaker?
>I guarantee 3/4ths didn't even watch/read it or thought Near and Mello weren't complete shit.
>I-I liked Death Note before it was cool
>People is complaining about this? I thought L being black was the perfect move to scare white washshing complainers
As expected of a tripfag, totally retarded logic
This is another jewllywood anti-white propaganda. Light is a fucking unlikeable nerd while Samuel L Jackson gets to be the good guy. Expect an "original" ending were L survives and cucks Light by blacking Misa
Right. A big part of the story was that Light was so superior to everyone around him that he developed a god complex. He had to be the one to fix the world because everyone else was worthless compared to him.
i actually thinks it's fine L is played by a black dude. first of all L is supposed to be faceless for a big part of the story/setup of it and as long as the dude is able to convey L quirkiness and his smarts im absolutely fine with him being L
4chan has always been edgy racist like saying nigger at each other and what not.
/pol/ is the one crying about Hollywood agendas, white genocide, MUH BLACKS INTELLIGENCE INFOGRAPHICS, and other stupid shit. If you think 4chan as a whole has always cared about these things, then you're obviously some newfriend who came here in 2014 or later. Even worse, you're probably from /tv/.
If I made a live action Stardust I'd have:
>Lee Byung Hun - Jotaro
>Won Bin - Kakyoin
>Giles Marini - Polnareff
>Harrison Ford - Joseph Joestar
>Idris Elba - Muhammad Avdol
What would you guys have?
4chan cares about things that are issues, Hollywood ruining shit is an issue and has always been, it's always been something people bitched about everywhere too, so I don't know why are you bringing that up. Nobody here is talking about "white genocide" or "black intelligence infographics" either, at least I don't know why are you pinning that on me, this argument is LITERALLY "wow /a/ is racist" from some newfag whom I replied "we've always been like that you stupid newfag" and then you called me /pol/ as if that somehow discredited what I said
Fuck off and go back to wherever the fuck you crawled from
>live action adaption of a series
>modern cinema can't even master adapting anime MOVIES into live action
Gee, remember how well paced and well received the Jap movies were?
Literally no reason this needs to exist.
also that death note looks like it was in the trash, the death note is actually a pretty neat notebook, deep black and clean pages, that shit looks like a wannabe necronomicon.
i mean it was brand new when ryuk dropped it to the human world
>people complaining about whitewashing
The influx of anime/manga adaptations is just some faggots with money who cannot afford known super heroes to jump on that bandwagon, tossing their money what they think is 'the next best thing' and totally fucking up the entirety of it for everyone.
This is where video games started to decline. Everyone was looking to make a buck from it, normies that previously had no interest in it start to take notice, they flood the market, some of them start getting ideas and having opinions that specific works should be done one way or another, feminist and SJW fucks start throwing their opinions and ideas in the mix, and soon the whole is just even more shit than before with the literal garbage being the most hyped up, expensive, and disappointing shit.
I know this is /a/, and you guys don't know what the fuck you're talking about, but Netflix shouldn't be mingled in with the rest of Hollywood - their model is so completely different that they are utterly incomparable.
>/b/ then - lol nigger
>/pol/ today - Let me tell you about the plight of Western European Civilization and the dangers of mixing peoples because the Jews are secretly controlling the entire universe and you can tell by...
Deathnote was never good. It was edglord shit. If you watched it you're probably an edgefag who listens to Linkin Park and paints his nails.
Every time you bitch about this you expose yourself as a faggot to everyone
Funny, this looks like the type of adaption that caters to those edgy people you described.
Light looks like he straight up uses the Death Note to take care of some school bullies, the edgiest of edge moves. Then there's action shit for almost no reason, like hanging out of a helicopter.
Fucking surprised there weren't explosions and Micheal Bay didn't help direct it.
Death Note loses so much as a white story because white boys already develop god complexes and go on killing sprees without a magic notebook.
>As hilarious as that would be, Jojo is regrettably too weird.
Hollywood does try weird and quirky, too. it's just rarely a success. sucker punch, tim burton stuff or that thing with nicholas cage as daddy.
I have only seen trailers of most stuff I have mentioned
>I really doubt they have any significant creative input into their series/movies.
Netflix has millions of hours of viewing data recorded to profile their viewers. They use that information to design shows for maximum viewer retention. They sure as fuck have input on their shows.
Literally the same way I felt about the Beauty and the Beast adaption when they made Le Fou gay. They completely forgot he became an absolute terror at the end, so they made him turn to the good side right at the end.
It looks so fucking awful...
Netflix shows usually have phenomenal direction (House of Cards, Narcos) so you would think they would hire someone who understood the themes and atmosphere to make a western adaptation.
But nope instead we get one of the most themactic and atmospheric animes reduced some ugly western thriller adaptation with terrible casting and marketed to the people who like Transformers or the Hunger Games.
>He was pretty much an extreme of over-achieving technical genius on top of being attractive and socially capable
No, he's basically braindead.
Anyone who is capable of basic thinking knows how not to get caught with the magical weapon that lets you kill people untraceably.
The guy playing L is a good actor so I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He's great in Atlanta and Straight out of Compton.
Never seen the dude playing Light.
Dafoe is a no brainier.
Can't be any worse than the anime. Death Note is shit too.
Battle Angel 2018, baby. Pic related
Considering its a movie and not a tv series, then its likely that L will kill Light.
>the brave and upstandingly genius black man defeats the psychotic serial killing white man
The casting for this movie is the best 4D chess in cinema I've seen for a long time.
The same people bitching about white washing are at a loss because then they'd have to complain about L being played as a black guy and not a white guy like in the series.
The people solely angry about L being black are at a loss because then they would have to complain about 99% of the rest of the cast being race swapped to white.
The people angry that there are no Asians can just be told to fuck off and just watch the first live action movie.
Just brilliant really.
>implying that isn't the case
Should have been the genius british man is murdered by the genius japanese man while two other genius british kids end up leading to the genius japanese mans downfall featuring japanese swimming lessons.
They also released a still not seen in the trailer.
Looks like they're trying to keep L's autism which is a good sign.
We only have the announcement that it's happening right now, but I've heard that SAO's author and director visited to see how things are going, so it does seem like this is still going to be a thing.
>Kalogridis, who also penned drafts for the live-action Alita: Battle Angel and Ghost in the Shell films, mentioned that she has "for years... been inspired by the inventive and masterful storytelling of the SAO franchise."
>mentioned that she has "for years... been inspired by the inventive and masterful storytelling of the SAO franchise."
Can't believe I got unironically triggered
>complain about live action changing things from the source material
>they keep something intact from source
>complain about that too
>Arnold Schwarzenegger as Star Platinum
I didn't know I wanted this so bad.
>Black people aren't exactly a minority
>less than 13% of the population
>one fifth the white population
>half the Amerindian population
>not a minority
There are huge swaths of America with zero black people in it. They're mostly in the South and major cities.
This looks more like a hipster faggy version of Heat rather than Death Note.
>12.6% of the American population
>by age 23, 49% of black males, 44% of Hispanic males and 38% of white males have been arrested
>half their population criminals
>only 9% of LA's population is black
>Meaning 1.08% of blacks work in LA
>i actually thinks it's fine L is played by a black dude.
Is he at least a creepy shut-in with bags under his eyes, an addiction to sweets and fucking weird sitting habits? This is important.
I think Berserk or Claymore would be easy conversions from anime to live action western cinema. With all the attention Berserk is getting now I wouldn't be surprised if something was made in the next 5 years.
But thinking about it more, I think Akira will be next one after Battle Angel because I remember it being in development hell for a while just like Death Note was so it's bound to be the next one to come out the shoot.
Death Note's getting a movie? This makes me SO ANGRY!
>I'm going to kill all of the rich, the cis-gendered, and the priviledged; in other words, the whites.
>Then the only white person left in the world will be you.
Then at the end L checks light's white privilege.
death note in anime form barely fucking worked as a mystery/thriller, i dare you to go rewatch it without realising how fucking dumb it was (and this is within the first 10 episodes)
I am racist, but I don't give a shit about L being black, I care more about the fact that they're gonna fuck up his mannerisms and who he actually is, as a character – just for the sake of "Americanization." I'm mostly angry about Light's casting.
I was posting on my phone and I wanted first post, sorry lads
But yeah the casting sucks absolute cock.
Light was supposed to be the "perfect" person with good looks, smarts, ect.
Instead they got someone that looks like an absolute fucking loser
>barely any Jews in their media
>very little SJWs in society, idol calls blacks ugly and receives little backlash from community
>actors looks close to their actual appearance
>actors did a good job of acting like their character
>diversity is a priority in every single field, even the military for some reason
>many Jews in high positions of power who seem to all support this trend
>many loud obnoxious SJWs, even feminists from other countries want nothing to do with them
>multiple situations of black actors playing non-black characters despite being an overwhelming minority amongst actors and an even smaller minority of good actors
>casts ugly meme actors that look nothing like their characters
Wow my brain is just brewing up thoughts like a bubblin' witch's cauldron.
>>actors looks close to their actual appearance
most anime/manga designs only work in anime/manga. they only look good on the page. most of the time when stuff transitions to live action, unless there are serious redesigns, it's gonna look shit and cartoony and it will stick out like a sore thumb.
L in the live action japanese films looked fucking lame. because when someone tries to look like L in real life they look like a fucking cosplayer.
i don't understand why you are so desperate that the actors should look like the fucking 2D characters. you reduce characters down to a hairstyle and an outfit basically. i'd much rather have them cast actors who could actually bring something to the role.
Seeing something like this would be disappointing because something the anime brought up was that
Its actually good if all these bad people would die, but because the way society is you can't say you agree with Kira
It really gets my noggin' a joggin
Clearly it's pure coincidence and they're choosing the best actor for the role only recently in the past decade.
Remember all those black African Gaelics who lives in Rome?
Another example of exemplary casting for a well received movie. Remember, they chose the best man for the job.
Susannah is going to be white and get blacked. There's no ulterior agenda and it's all just crazy cooky conspiracy theorists. Don't follow the money, that has never ever worked in history.
Well if you're going to ground the show in american west then it kinda works for the character's aesthetic to change to suit that, and looking like some inner city techno delinquent sells the supergenius angle better than looking like a teen autist. Plus the hacker look works the whole 'assisting the police' angle since that's basically what every good hacker eventually graduates to.
If he was a slave then why wasn't he picking cotton in America, the only country in the world to ever have slaves?
I would've given it chance and the benefit of the doubt if it was an episodic series, but they're cramming tons of plot points into a 2 hour movie, so it's probably going to be shit.
Oh that's disappointing. I love You're Next and The Guest. The V/H/S have some high points too, but not sure if any of his shorts were them.
Blair Witch was garbage from the start with Borderlands to the bullshit ending.
>Main character explicitly based off of real life white actor who always plays a cowboy.
>The main character looks like this in-universe because the writer himself is a character in the series and wanted to make a character like him.
>Decide to make him black in the adaptation because ????
I think I wrote about this before when the show was just announced, but L being black is actually a genius part on the writers
Light being white and L being black works on multiple symbolic levels
1. Light represents the current justice system where white people get to deem final judgement on those they deem criminals. L represents those who wish to fix the twisted justice system and restore it to what it's supposed to be
2. Light represents how white people in general, get put, undeserving, into positions of power and get to make huge decisions compared to the actual competent people like, L, an actual detective, who have to go through so many hoops and bureaucratic red tape just to do their jobs.
3. Light represents how white criminals have such a huge advantage (The "deathnote") that they make life so difficult for black members of law enforcement
It's a really well done symbolism that poetically works on so many levels, if you only think about it
This is one case where "blackwashing" is actually good as it gives the story more depth.
No-name look-alikes with a history of classical acting.
It'd be set in New York but not in the city, and the story would make Ray Penber a bigger part of the plot since it wouldn't be able to get very far past that point + exposition. It would include many of the bigger schemes and tricks from later in the series and condense them into the regeared plot, but not enough that it makes the pacing feel awkward.
Light would not be the main focus of it, and for the first quarter of the movie we wouldn't even see who it was or how the killings were happening. Advertising would not show any indication of the actual death note, L, or Light and would focus on Penber instead.
Light's actions would be set up to seem closer to that of the mannerisms of the Zodiac killer. There would be very subtle hints to shinigami but they would be a story hidden beneath the story for more intelligent audience members to notice and head nods to fans of the series.
It wouldn't show him killing any real major politicians or real life counterparts, at first only criminals and then outspoken police officers and later in the movie every-day citizens from news and media who say anything bad about Light.
He's out in the open when he goes to chat with Light at his university, exams etc. Though he doesn't address an audience with a 'I am L' thing. Granted he uses fake names and stuff, but he's still putting his face out there.
Why didn't light just go look up the records of that years entrance ceremony and have watch a recording or look at a photo.
Question for the mangafriends that read it weekly before it ended. Did Madhouse/Araki really ask Ohba to change the ending of the series so Light loses or is that a rumor anime fans made up?
I don't know about that but it's clear from just how most of the other death note users ended that Light wouldn't make it. There's some kind of paranormal quality to it that causes it's user to die in misfortune compared to what their goals were.
