Is this worth a watch? You're going to get a bunch of aggressive responses because this question gets asked several times every thread. Short answer is yes, but it's got a high entry barrier.

The screenshots aren't lying to you anon. The models and rendering themselves aren't half bad, but the animation as a whole is not good. Some people have come to find it charming, while others can simply overlook it and let their imagination fill in the gaps left by the imperfection of the visuals.

It's hard to describe what's really amazing about this show because all of its best attributes are so subtle. It's a cute adventure about self-discovery with some surprisingly compelling characters. The attention to small details are nearly unbelievable at times and the pacing towards hinting at a the mystery behind the park is near perfect.

You're probably not gonna like it for the visuals, but you should give it a try anyway. And leave these threads so you don't get the descent into madness spoiled for you.

Many of my all time favorites are not thing I would ever personally espouse or praise for their 'art' on its own merit.

What I liked was that Kaban's 'special ability' was her spirit and her intelligence. It isn't like most other anime where 'spirit' manifests in ki blasts or transformation or smarts meaning Sherlock Holmes or Macgyver-tier bullshit.

It's because in the game, a Cerulean transformed into a Serval-shaped Cerulean that befriended a Serval and was dubbed by her as Cerval. Said Cerval later helped Serval and Mirai and co. defeat the Cerulean Queen and became a real Friend afterward, meaning Ceruleans are also capable of becoming Friends.

Ah, now that's an interesting point. To have the Savanna Slug make any kind of sense, he'd need to move away from the slimy kind of slug we're used to since it would lose its water way too fast and would probably have a thick but still elastic enough hide, akin to a hippo. And to keep using the hippo as an example, since it would probably still need to be next to water somewhat, it would also have some kind of auto applying sun screen just like the hippo and therefore defense against the sun when it's unable to find water. As for movement, since it can't travel on a carpet of slime like the smaller versions of its kind, its singular muscular foot could possibly mutate into something akin to caterpillar like short legs which it would bring close apart then push further away to achieve movement. This is all silly speculah, sure, but where I'm getting at with this, is that since it can't afford to have a slimy body in the savanna, it should also be immune to salt.

I think one of the problems the game had launching by itself was going with SD designs for the characters.

It was an almost complete gameplay clone of another more established game and that clearly had more resources for backgrounds, VA and animations. So, it only could stand out by character design, and although they're detailed, SD-only designs limit audience reach. Even the anime didn't go with those proportions. They're fine for the in-game sprites, but the artwork should have been full sized from the start.

Grinding strengthens your empathic bond with the characters, believe it or not. By the end of a decent RPG you feel like you've been through a lot with them, because you have.

Consequently that's why watching a series in real time with /a/ will always be better than marathoning it on your own over the course of an evening or two, especially if there's an adventurous or speculative element.
